Dell b110 does not recognize more than 32 gb of hdd

check the jumper settings of the hard drive The drive is larger than 32GB, but the operating system only recognizes 32GB. If the operating system, BIOS or DiscWizard can only recognize 32 GB of the drive it may be caused by one of the following:
  1. Drive Jumpers: Applies to Mac and Window users. On drives that are larger than 32 GB there is a Capacity Limitation Jumper (CLJ), also known as the Limit Capacity Jumper or the Alternate Capacity (AC) Jumper setting. This jumper will limit the capacity of the drive to 32 GB and should only be used when the BIOS hangs when trying to auto-detect the drive. If you have two jumpers shunts on the drive you will need to remove the CLJ or AC jumper. If you format the drive with the CLJ or AC jumper then the drive capacity will be limited to 32GB. After removing the CLJ or AC jumper the drive will still be recognized as 32GB. You must reformat the drive without the CLJ or AC jumper to gain the full capacity of the drive. The other option is to create a second partition with the remaining unallocated disc space.
  2. BIOS: On older systems (pre- November 1998) the BIOS may not support drives that are larger than 32 GB. In the BIOS setup please set the drive type to AUTO detect. If the BIOS detects the full capacity of the drive then the BIOS will support the capacity of the drive. If not please perform one of the following:
    1. Check with the system or motherboard manufacturer for any BIOS upgrades for the system.
    2. (Recommended) Purchase a PCI ATA controller card that will support the capacity of the drive. The two benefits of ATA controller cards are:
      • The ability to support large capacity drives
      • The ability to support the faster transfer rates of the drive.
  3. Operating System: Windows have a 32 GB format limitation for FAT 32. That means if you formatted the drive in FAT 32 with Windows, the largest partition supported is 32 GB. You will need to format the drive in NTFS if you want to partition the drive larger than 32 GB. The other option is to create a second partition with the remaining unallocated disc space.
  4. Incorrect Reporting to the BIOS: The drive itself may be reporting the incorrect size to the BIOS. In order to correct this, you will need to download SeaTools for DOS, boot into the SeaTools disc, and run the Set Capacity utility. It is recommended that you only have the hard drive reporting the incorrect capacity connected to your system while performing the following steps. Any other hard drives should be disconnected. It is recommended that you back up any important data on the hard drive before using SeaTools to set the drive size. This is a potentially data destructive procedure. Seagate is not responsible for any lost data. After correcting the drive capacity, the drive may still show a partition size of 32GB but with unallocated space. You must delete its current partition then repartition and format the drive to gain the full capacity of the drive. The other option is to create a second partition with the remaining unallocated disc space.
    1. Insert the SeaTools for DOS CD or floppy disc into the appropriate drive, and restart your computer. When SeaTools boots up, carefully read the license agreement, and press Y if you accept it.
    2. Select the correct drive from the list using the mouse or keyboard.
    3. Choose Advanced Features .
    4. Choose Set Capacity to Max Native.
    5. Once the capacity has been set SeaTools has returned to the main screen, take the SeaTools disc out of the drive and completely power down the system. The system needs to be shut down so any cached information is cleared. If you simply reboot or reset your computer without completely powering it down first, the corrected capacity setting will not take effect.

How to uninstall windows to earler version

This requires having a previous disk for windows. You will also have to reformat yourhard drive as to installing an older version on top of a new one will cause problems when booting and the operation of many programs. First you will want to enter bios. To enter bios you will need to restart unit and continuously press F12 before the windows logo shows. May take a few tries, Once in bios the mouse is not usable so use arrows and F keys. select boot options make cd/dvd the first selection. Put disk in before you save and exit. nothing will happen but if you don't do it as soon as you turn your unit on you will have keep trying. press ESC I think it is to save and exit. Pc will automatically restart. Pay attention it will ask you to hit any key to boot from disk. this will enter the setup section where you will need to delete your drive and reformat. This can take awhile. Once it is done it will return to that previous selection screen asking what you want to do make your selection sit back grab a smoke coffee pizza what have you and relax for awhile but keep an eye n it , it will ask a question or 2. Unit may also shut down and restart a few times on it's own just let it. don't hit anything when it restarts asking if you want to boot from disk, Doing so will start everything all over. Your going to go through a lot of auto-restarts and a few questions as it near beung usable. It will ask if you have internet and all the fun stuff as to when you first turned on a new pc. When you are able to log onto windows desktop and online only install updates do not install any third party programs Not even your ant-virus. You want all windows updates before anything. I hope you have at least 2 days about 3 if you are going back to XP. Cp you have to manually search and download updates since the provided update program is no usable. Have fun. Windows Xp updates will be hit and miss until it can update the auto update program but needs various other ones first.

Instruction for reinstal Factory settings with os disk

As long as you have a Dell Branded O.S disk then it will be not very hard at all, Well to start with if you wish to start fresh and this will require you to format your hard drive which you can do just prior to installing your O.S.There are a few steps to do before we can even think about starting the formatting and installing.Step 1. Ensure that you have backed up any files that you wish to keep such as photo's, important documents etc. ( So long as you have access to the O.S and it is not a re-install to correct a corrupted O.S problem etc ).Step 2. After backing up all your data that you want to backup restart your computer you will then see an option usually in the right corner of the screen to press usually either F2 or F12 press the button that corresponds with entering setup usually F2 of Dell systems and then go to step 3. ( If you are unable to access the O.S Enter Bios by pressing usually F2 on Dell systems to enter setup and refer to Step 3 ).Step 3. Now that you are in BIOS scroll down to boot order change your settings to boot from the CD/DVD first, then HDD second. Before you restart open your CD/DVD drive and insert your O.S disk after doing so exit and save changes this will automatically restart your computer.Step 4. Now that your computer is restarting along the top left you will notice that it reads to press any key to boot from CD/DVD press any key to enter setup.Step 5. Now that you have entered setup you will be faced with an option to repair or install windows enter the corresponding command to install.Step 6. you will now be faced with a screen warning you that an existing O.S is present, Once again it will ask if you wish to repair but it will also give you the option to delete the information on the hard drive press the corresponding button for you to delete the data you will the be asked to confirm the action confirm by pressing the corresponding button.Step 7. Now that you have deleted the data you will have to partition the drive press C to create a new partition you can either set the size yourself or if you are unsure just use the suggested size by setup then press Enter and then press Enter again at the main screen then you will have to format you partition to get it ready for use otherwise it will not be recognized until this is done, Choose thee NTFS full format command this will take longer than using the quick format feature yet the full format command ensures that you have completely erased all potential problems.Step 8. Now that you have finally got your hard disk partitioned and formatted you are now ready to continue setup normally it will start by itself but if not just follow the on-screen prompts to continue.Step 9. If you are using a genuine Dell Branded O.S Re-install disk you will not have to enter the windows registration key as it will detect it from the install process, ( If you are using a Non Dell Branded O.S you will have to have the registration code off the windows sticker provided at the time of your computer being first installed with windows this is found on the holographic style sticker somewhere on your computer ) when it come to the point where you have to pick whether it be a typical install or a custom install unless you really know what you are doing and exactly what you have within you system the best option is to pick Typical install once you have done all this the install program will guide you through the rest. All the best I hope this helps.

How to bypass a dell dimension b110 password

It's not so clear since you haven't mention which password, whether Bios password or system password. If it's Bios password, remove the Bios battery and leave it outside for few mins and reinsert it. That will solve the problem. But if it's system password (password to be typed in when you are logging on to your system), it depends on the operating system on how to bypass it. For windows XP it's easy with some key strokes but for win vista and win 7 it would be much tougher since higher security feature is implemented with these operating system. Let me know if your problem is the system password with the operating system mention in your comment. Good luck.

Unplug your computer, wait 30 minutes, plug it back in and try again.

If it still doesn't work, it's got a serious problem. If it isn't under warranty with DELL any longer, take it to a reputable repair facility.
