this could be the problem of printer carrage cable.

There is a workaround. As you no doubt know, windows 7 doesn't install HP solution center. So, to get a scan from your printer, or to send a fax etc,. you need to go to start > All probrams > Windows Fax and Scan.
From this program you gain all the functionality of your printer/fax/scanner, however the scan buttons do not work on the printer.

on the left portion of the printer facing you, hold that small cover then pull gently sideway going to right,

Just replace the Cartridge in question, align and you good to go.

Go to www.hp.com and click on support - then downloads and enter your make and model of your printer. then follow the prompts to download and install the software.

If the "Mode" was "Tx" or "Snd", you tried to send a fax, and the other fax machine did not answer, then it was either turned off, or out of paper or ink. If the mode was "Rx" or "Rcv", it means your fax machine tried to receive a fax, but none was sent. If your machine was in TEL/FAX or FAX mode and it received a regular call, the caller heard the fax tone and hung up. If your machine was in ANS/FAX or EXT.TAM mode, it most likely means a regular voice caller heard the answering machine and hung up without leaving a message.
