Remedy
1 Reset the Y ATC failure lock out condition. 1. Enter diagnostic mode 2. Select Dev unit reset. 2. Select Y channel Perform a very large print test. Does the error continue? Go to step 2. Problem solved. 2 Check the sensor (Y ATC) for proper connection. Is the above component properly connected? Replace the Y developer unit assembly. Go to "Developer unit assembly removal". Replace the connection. 3 Perform a very large print test. Does the error continue? Replace the upper printer engine card assembly. Go to "Upper printer engine card assembly removal". Problem solved.

Disclaimer ... this advice is worth what you paid for it ... Nothing...DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE THE NUMBERS OFF THE NEW DEVELOPERS FOR THE SENSOR RESETS EACH DEVELOPER HAS A GREEN TAG WITH A BAR CODE AT THE BOTTOM !! VERY IMPORTANT !!Writing this from memory... may have forgotten somethings...However make sure you have a shop vac in case of accidental spill. Ive done this SEVERAL times... don't actually enjoy this job of many other options....Lexmark X945 ... oh power off the printer first ... 1.Remove the front door 2 screw hold the bracket at the bottom. After the screws are removed they should slide and lift off. The 2 straps disconnect at the printer. Squeeze the tabs and twist they should pop off but be careful not to brake them.2.Remove the small front/left cover and toner fill shroud. 2 screws hold the front/left cover in place and it just slides up. The toner fill shroud has 4 screws that hold it in place.3.Remove the toner fill assemblies each color has 1 screw. Be sure to pull the closing slip on the bottom of the drain where it connects to the developer to avoid spilling more than you must.4.Remove the waist toner full housing assembly. If I remember correct its 1 screw and 1 C-Clamp. Detach the cables and put the part to the side.5.Remove the bracket that holds the developers in place being careful not to drop cable snaps.6.Remove old developers fill new developers with fill kit and NOT toner.Make sure the developers are properly insearted so when you get it back together you don't have to take it apart again. Good way to check it when you put them in push down on the end of the developer that sticks out. If it lifts in the rear you don't have it in correctly.7.Reassembly(reverse what you just did) and reset sensor settings in configuration menu mode.

Check your function access via a web browser to the IP/Hostname. If this doesn't work you could have a bad UCF file loaded. Hold 2 and 6 on boot up till the screen comes to ready. Go to the Factory defaults and reset the LES and Base codes and reload the UCF (Universal Configuration File). If you do not use a UCF you have to reset the setting by connecting to the printer via internet browser.

X945 Refile or replaced the developer unit.NOTE: if you remove the PC units on the suspected color and shine a flash light on the developer you should be able to see the pattern caused by toner not pushing completely above the auger system. This causes the spiral pattern. When you remove the developer and open it you should it is fairly empty inside. It requires a new box of dev-fil for the color. I would suggest 1 hour set aside to repair and make sure you get your ATC charts for the repair sensor reset/calibrations or you will have 88replacement errors later down the road and/or poor print again. hope this helps. Best bet is to call an experienced tech at Lexmark for a support call its a pretty messy and big job.

X945e 980.03 service finisher comm - how to fix
The 980.03 communications error on Lexmark X945e indicates a communication problem with the Finisher Controller Card. This usually requires a service call as it deals with cable connections from the finisher, from the bridge unit, the finisher controller card assembly, or the engine card assembly. But try to unplug the printer from power source, replug after 30 seconds. Plug printer straight to power outlet in the wall. Bypass any surge device, power strips or uninterruptible power supply (UPS). These can cause false error messages.
