Canon PIXMA iP5300 InkJet Photo Printer Questions & Answers
Canon PIXMA iP5300 InkJet thinks paper output tray is closed (it isnt) and won't print!
I've been having the exact same problem. Apparently its from a switch that doesn't signal to the printer that the output door is closed. On the printer, it looks like there should be a small plastic piece on the output door that pushes against the switch when its closed, thereby signalling that the door is shut. The switch is located just above an electronic switchboard that is directly behind the panel that has the two long rectangular buttons and the USB input on the right side of the front of the printer (when looking directly at the printer, that is). I have the cover off of my machine, but don't really know if the switch is supposed to be pushed down, or up, to signal that the door is closed. According the forums below, once I get that figured out, then it should be fixed. None of the forums clarify whether the switch is supposed to be pushed down or up. I'm no technical whiz, so it's not so obvious to me as it may be to other people. If it doesn't work, then I'll let you all know. If it does, you may never hear from me again as I'll likely forget all about this posting.

The most difficult part of it all is getting the cover off. Make sure you have a few flathead screw drivers, or something else that is about 3mm wide, thin but sturdy, and then insert them into the 4 slits in the printer before pushing hard to release the plastic hooks that lock the cover to the base of the printer. I'm sure I'm not making any sense, but a forumer at the xkcd website explains it pretty well. It just takes a bit of force. Hope it works!
I'm printing in high quality on glossy II paper
Haha Sorry to laugh but all printing is done in dots... my guess is the print quality is turned way down like maybe 300dpi x 300dpi o btw dpi is dots per inch so basically just need to checkout the printer properties and turn up the quality or dpi

Hi! try printhead nozzle alignment and head cleaning from maintenance tab in printing
preferences. it will print a test page after cleaning printhead. Good
luck!
How do I reset the print cartridge on an IP5300?
Word to the wise, NEVER EVER use refilled or non OEM cartridges in any printer! They can do serious damage and you end up buying a whole new printer by trying to save a few bucks on the front end. I used to work for a national chain where we pushed our own after market cartridges. Even at that time I knew what headaches and heartaches it caused. I still directed people pass our own company cartridges straight to HP, Canon, Lexmark, or whomever. Try buying a Canon cartridge and hopefully this will fix it.
Ip5300 fault light flashing
Hi Good day!! I think the problem is that the waste ink tank is full and you need to reset it.. Please try these steps. and hope it works..1: Power off printer
2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
3: Hold POWER and release RESUME
4: Press RESUME twice, then release all buttons
5: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three or four times. The indicator should be orange.
6: Press Power to set data
To actually drain the waste ink tank, you'll need to take your printer
to pieces and find, clean, wash and dry the felt pads found in the base
of the printer. This is a complicated procedure, but it is a good idea
to do it if you're technically minded. Many people have just reset the
code without actually draining the pads and very few have run into
problems as a result. If you do this, you risk damaging your printer
and/or the surface it sits on if the pads absorb too much ink. However,
if you're going to buy a new printer anyway, you might just reset the
code and stand it on a piece of paper or card. It's up to you, just
understand the risks.Thank you
