Playstation 3 wont read disk

Hello,

You can also try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

If after trying the above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.

I wish you good luck.

Where can i buy disc

Ok for a start, the Blu ray drives are all over ebay but it is very important you get the right one.
For 40 and 60Gb consoles you will need a drive that has the KEM-400AAA laser and deck inside and the logic board is screwed to the outside of the drive case.
For 80Gb and higher you will need a drive that has the KEM-410ACA laser and deck inside it, The logic board on these drives is actually inside the casing.
Some newer 40Gb PS3's also had the newer type dual laser drive too but they are rare.
The table below shows the standard Blu ray models. Any model newer than the CECHH-** should be using the newer dual laser setup. That would include CECHL,CECHJ,CECHK,CECHM etc etc

Blu-ray lens model Description PS3 models KEM-400AAA The original with single lens (includes mount) CECHA-CECHE KES-400AAA Single lens using cheaper parts. CECHG KEM-410ACA There are two lens, one for CD/DVD, and another one for Blu-ray (includes mount) CECHH KES-410ACA There are two lens, one for CD/DVD, and another one for Blu-ray. CECHH KES-450ACA There are two lens, one for CD/DVD, and another one for Blu-ray. CECH-20xx
One last thing to remember is that you need the logic board that is currently screwed to YOUR drive. This then needs to be swapped to the replacement drive as it is paired to the motherboard and without it your system will never read discs again.

Hope this helps

My console turns green after

You have yellow light of death. Easy fix with hot air gun (heat gun). Just hit up the cpu and gpu for about 2 minutes going back and forth between the two making sure not to heat up just one spot. Google Ylod or yellow light of death and should bring up videos for you to watch disassembling ps3s and reflowing them with hot air guns. Gun cost $25 at most on ebay for a cheap one then go ahead and get some thermal compound paste for around $4 most.

Hi, I purchased Assassin's Creed

You can try to put your save files on an external harddrive or USB, so you can import them after the system restore is finished. Playstation Store downloads are linked to your account, so if you've bought them once, you needn't buy them again, only re-download them.

Ylod

I had the same problem but what i heard helped a little bit

1. it is possibble that it was caused by the hardrive failing or it being diconnected from the console
2. amother thing that might of happened has to do with the soldering on the motherboard that needs to be reflowed through a repair center that specializes in this kind of stuff

Yellow light. computer turns on and then off and

Hi this is a very common problem and its to do with the ps3 over heating,
try the following.
leave it off and unplugged for an hour
check all air vents are free from fluff and dust and vac if needed.
make sure the ps3 is not being used whilst its on carpet
make sure the ps3 is not sitting on top of another electrical item such as dvd or sky box as this will cause it to over heat a lot quicker.
make sure its not wedged in a confined space it needs to have plenty of room around it to ensure cool air flow.

unplug all the leads from the back of the ps3 and the telly then plug them all back in, doing this removes any static that may have built up, then switch it on.

if after doing the above it still dont work then this indicates that either the gpu or cpu chip has over heated, if you have any warranty left take it back you need to check on the ps3 web site to see how old your ps3 is as this fault is covered by ps3 warranty for a couple of years but you need to check this.

now as for getting it repaired, well its a bit hit and miss i repair them myself and if it was an xbox 360 then i would say the chance of it working again is pretty high but as its a ps3 then these can be a bit hit and miss if the ps3 has over heated a lot and fried the cpu or gpu chip or both then the cost of repair would not be worth doing as it would be cheaper to buy a second hand ps3 or even a reconditioned one.

its not the kind of repair you can do yourself as you need to know how to test the circuit board to find out if the chips have been damaged.
the only other option you have is selling it for spares, i buy the damaged ones for spare parts but you wont get much for it as it is, i mean you could pay for the repair and you may get charged even though it cant be fixed,

i always say to my customers that if i cant repair it i will only charge for the parts i used which is nothing but if i do fix it then i charge them the cost of the repair, usually if its beyond repair they let me buy it off them as i pay more than they would get from ebay as they sell on their for about 30 quid with the problem you have got.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

If the game is not loading properly and you have confirmed that it is working properly on another system this is a sign that you have corrupted data on your PS3 hard drive causing the cache data on the PS3 to me accessed properly.

The link below will help you try to repair the data but you may need to format the drive.

For the Ps3 whit RSOD...ok but i have put off my

The computer won't "SEE IT" because the drive is encrypted. You can still format the drive but you'll need to use Windows Disk Manager.

Or Disk Utility if you or your friend has an Apple computer.

If you've got a RSOD the problem probably isn't related to the hard drive but the console has overheated.

You can keep all your info if you DON'T format the old drive, just pop a new or used SATA drive into the console and try to boot, if you get video then YES it's the drive, if you get the same results then NO the console has a hardware problem.

Hope this info helps!

My playstation 3 turned off and when i try to turn

Maybe, I'm not sure if Sony has extended the warranty on the PS3 Yellow Light of Death. I would call Sony if I were you and ask. And before you wonder, you will get the same system you bought back. I had a repair done and was specific on getting my system back. Thanks.
P.S. Stand proud, you are one of few who still have the 60gig PS3!

We just got God of War 3 but the 60gb ps3 refuses

I would say that you need to do a system update that will allow the game to boot. Each new PS3 game that comes out has the latest update on it and your PS3 may be having trouble accessing it. Update the system through the update menu and try it again. Repost if you have further issues.

When i turn on my ps3 red screen apper and said

I can confidently say your ps3 is about to go YLOD, nothing really that you can do about it, if you wanna continue to use it you will have to do a reflow with a heat gun which is a very delicate process, I would advice you to sell it after doing the reflow and let the person buying know about the impending problem since it is a recurring one, go on youtube and search for "Gilksy ps3 reflow", Hope this helps

How to reset everything on my ps3?

Hard Reset procedure for the PS3 (as instructed by Sony CS). Be sure to backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to sony.
1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).
4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).
Hopefully this will solve your freezing problems.
Problems/symptons that this appears to have resolved:
-freezing when doing anything
-no harddrive activity
-freezing when trying to use onboard keyboard or bringing up keyboard
-game/movie disc freezes system
