The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa (http://picasa.google.com ).

How does this thing work?
Install the software on your computer. Put a battery in the camera. Push and hold the button to turn it on (display shows 00) Take some pictures - the camera makes a tiny beep, the led on the front flashes, and the count goes up by one. Push and hold delete to remove the last picture (count goes down) hold longer to delete them all (goes to 00). When you've collected some pictures, rush to your computer to download them with the USB cable before the battery runs out; when that happens the pictures are all gone (there's no flash memory in this). Holds about 40 pictures depending on the amount of detail in them.
