I lost my password for

If it's the wireless password and you can still access the settings, you can change or add an additional wireless password (so you don't have to worry about changing it on your laptop). Or it might display the password on the security page, if it isn't asterisked out.

If you lost the administration password, you'll have to press the reset button, its a hole in the back of the router or bottom, try shoving a paperclip point into that. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Then, in your web browser, go to 192.168.1.1, leave the user ID blank and type admin for the password. Since everything is set back to default, you'll need to completely redo your security settings and change the wireless password in your laptop to comply with your changes.

Hope this helps!

I lost my password can

Perform a Belkin reset:

1. Locate the reset hole on the router. The button will be on the back or side of the router.Leave the router powered on.

  1. Use a paperclip (or similar) to press and hold in the reset button for 10 seconds.
  1. Remove the paperclip.

4. Wait approximately one minute for the router to restart.

The settings for the router have now been reset back to their default.

Do not forget the new password and keep it somewhere safe. If you forget your password, you'll be unable to access your router's settings.

Setup steps:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1
  4. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
  5. Then you can setup a new password.

Orange light on instead of

If this is on one of the local computer ports and it is blinking it is nothing to worry about according to the manual (http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/p74559-b_f5d7230-4v7_man.pdf, page 11). It is just another normal status color like green but signifies a different network speed/duplex. If you are having issues with network connectivity, please reply with information such as:
1) Is the Modem light on and blinking? 2) are other machines using this router and able to get online? 3) did anything change to the computer plugged into the orange port such as windows updates or new hardware install?
Hope this helps some!

I cant remember my Belkin

Not quite clear as to your problem. Are you trying to access the web-based configuration page for the router (for which you need an administrator password)? Or are you trying to make a wireless connection to the Internet via the router (for which you need the wireless security key)?

Those are two separate passwords, and you may be able to retrieve them both. The administrator password would be stored in the computer that was used to configure the router. The security key should be in the computer which configured the router, as well as any computer which made a wireless connection to the router.

You may find it helpful to check the owner's manual. If you don't have that available, you can download a copy here:
http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/list/q/routers/
Be sure to specify the correct router model.

If you can access the web-based configuration page for your router, you should be able to view (or reset) the wireless security key. (Check the owner's manual for your model.)

For many Belkin routers, the URL for that page is simply: http://router
novaweb_10.gif

Then select "Security", and following the onscreen guidance.
novaweb_11.gif

If you're not able access the router's configuration page, and the passwords are stored, you should still be able to retrieve them by installing some free software.

For the computer that configured the router, download and install this program:

For a laptop that connected to the router, download and install this program:

1. I'm not sure about the model, the plate says:

I wouldn't recommend doing this because it would then be easier for someone to access your files. However, if you wouldl ike to do this, make sure that your fileserver has a static IP adress, and not one handed out by DHCP. Log into your router, and look for a port forwarding setting. Port forward a port such as 5800 to the IP address of the file server. Make sure that port 5800 is open on the firewall on your fileserver. Now go to whatismyip.com and find out what your public IP address is. From the outside world, you can remote desktop into your file server by opening up RDP and typing your ip address such as xxx.xx.xx.xxx:5800
