Can a TV;s volume raise fast and loud without

Moisture trapped in the controls can cause this. I had a similar problem with a stero at work. I ended up having to get rid of it.
You should take the batteries out of the remote for a couple days and use the buttons on the tv to determine if the problem is with the tv or the remote. If you are lucky, it will be only a remote issue, and you can correct it with a universal remote.

When i turn on tv

Welcome to FixYa!

The problems can be several Follow the steps (as your TV is aging its inverters may be ) or read the entire post if it helps in any manner to you first of all Turn the lights off ,in a dark room turn the TV on. During the second that there is a picture, observe if there is a slightly darker horizontal section of the back lights.
This will show you there the bad lamp is.
Sometimes a bad section of the inverter is the problem, other times it's a florescent lamp causing this issue.
The only way to figure out where the problem is, is to put test equipment on the bad stage. If the output from the inverter is missing, then it's the inverter. If the signal is too big, then the lamp is open. Unfortunately the only fix is a new panel, and Toshiba has not made the replacement panels available for most of their models. I have repaired dozens of these panels, because I have harvested a large assortment of back lamps from all the LCD panels that have been donated to us when the LCD display is cracked. It is a time consuming and delicate procedure

More over the for the check , check your cables (input and out put cables are the plugged all right, unswitch and swith them again. may be it works for you.

see if it can help you in any manner

I have a Regza 42

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Toshiba 42 lcd cannot delete channels

Also have a 42" Toshiba and had the same problem, then had issues moving the channel order while some channels were set to skip.

What I ended up doing was retuning the tv. Then went through the channel list (Menu -> Setup -> DTV Setting -> Channels) and changed the number of the channels I didn't want to 1000+ (using the red button, ie 1001, 1002, 1003...). This in itself does not change the channel order, but when I then move these channels to the end of the channel list and because they are numbered numerically I can be sure I don't miss any.

Next I went to the channel options (Menu -> Setup -> DTV Setting -> Channel Options) and marked all the channels I'd moved to the end of the list as channels to skip and locked. This does not remove the channels from the EPG but it does move them to the end of the list and when scrolling with the channel +/- buttons these channels will not be selected.

Ideally I would also like to delete channels such as QVC etc altogether and would love to know if anyone has a more effective solution to this issue.

Is my REGZA 42" 42HL167

This REGZA 42" 42HL167 has ATSC digital tuner built-in. when you set the TV to scan for channels, you must set the source to AIR, not CABLE. Since the Digital TV signals use the Old UHF band for transmission, your amplifier is made for this band? Try it without th amp first.

Please leave rating if it helps

This is a common problem, inside the set the mains on/off switch has a small plactic cap on it which breaks easily - the power button externally is slightly off-set to the switch inside so this cap transfers the "push" at a slight angle - a new modified plastic cap with a stronger molding is now available from toshiba

My TV screen appears for a second then turns

If the tv isn't fully shutting down. but just flashing on and off then it
sounds like a backlight supply fault.
All LCD screens have what can only be described as micro flouro lights inside the screen module.
it is possible that the power supply is faulty causing them to flash on and off every now and then. or the tubes themselves are damaged.
to confirm this..
Lay the tv down flat on its back and power up in a well lit room
get down close to the screen and look across it at a acute angle
now if the black screen looks like it is still displaying an image then it's definatley your backlights!

in which case it could be a simple fault in the power supply.
so if your feeling confident in yourself i can talk you through what to look for in the supply..but try this first and get back to me.

hope this helps,ben :-)

Unable to switch on tv

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Toshiba Regza LCD, screen went all green

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I
