Hi there,This is from the NX6310's documentation:Intel 945GM Express Chipset supports up to 4096-MB maximum (2048-MB533- or 667-MHz SODIMM in slots 1 and 2)Intel 940GML Express Chipset supports up to 2048-MB maximum (1024-MB533- or 667-MHz SODIMM in slots 1 and 2)Basically if you have the Intel 940GML Express Chipset, then the machine only supports 2gb of ram as a maximum, to confirm this, go to Start > right click computer/mycomputer > go to manage > device manager > system devices.Under there you'll see what chipset you have, if it's the Intel 940GML Express Chipset, you're out of luck, if it's the Intel 945GM, you may just have the wrong speed ram, make sure they are the same speed and compare them to the spec above.Thanks,Liam

The memory and hard drive shouldn't be the issue. Most likely your LCD has stopped working or the inverter for the LCD panel's back light has stopped working. Try shining a flashlight directly at the screen and see if you can see any windows, icons, etc. If you can then the back light has gone out or the inverter has failed. If you still don't see anything your LCD panel may have failed. Try hooking up an external monitor and see if you can get an image to display on it. If so then you may need a new LCD panel installed. At that point you should probably take it to a repair facility or see if your warranty will cover the replacement.

sounds to me like your having a problem with your LCD screen,, A bad LCD or LCD inverter board can affect the mother boards bootup.

Can you see any life from the LCD?

It could also be a bad main board

Try tapping on F11 after you turn the laptop on, and see if it will go into the recovery mode. If it does, you are in luck, and can choose how you want to do the recovery.

If it does not, you can order a set of recovery disks from HP for about $15us which includes shipping costs.
