HP Compaq nc6120 Notebook - Page 7 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

My friend has a laptop with fingerprint security eyc and forgot a password also and had to format the drive and start over,try that or do a freeware search for programs that help with security issues.Have you gone online to read the manufactures info regarding bypassing security which is most likely a format.

Back up your data frequently as the hard drive will fail soon. When the hard drive fails you need to install a new one and install Windows on the new hard drive to get a fully functioning computer again.

Most laptops do not have one and clearing the cmos will not help.

Contact HP, they have a master password that can get you in. You may have to fax them proof of ownership to get them to help. I had to do this on a laptop.

Sounds like the hard disk is not able to boot the laptop.
ROM based setup means you need to reset or reconfigure the BIOS.
Assuming the BIOS battery is OK.
This could be because the hard disk itself died, you can remove the disk and attach it to a USB adapter (cheap to purchase) then connect it to another PC. If you can read the disk OK in another PC then you have a motherboard problem.

Uninstall the Easy Drive Lock Driver.

Remove the Battery

Remove the Hard Disk

Remove the DIMM Memory from underneath the Laptop and remove the 2x KEYBOARD screws

Turnover laptop and REMOVE the KEYBOARD by pushing back the 4 x Spring clips between keys "esc" & "F1" - "F4" & "F5" - "F8" & "F9" - "F12" & "DELETE"

Remove the 2nd DIMM Memory and Unclip the Battery from Mainboard.

Leave for 30 minutes then start with mains ONLY no battery or Hard Disk

BIOS NOW RESET including Password

Switch Off and now put all back together

you cannot buy a single key - you need to replace the whole keyboard if the error resists.

You probably need to have a techie install a new d/c jack onto the motherboard. Only about $60us in my market.

This model hp compaq nc6120 pc notebook has NO built-in mic. I read it on the manufactures website in the "reviews" section. But it does have a port where you can connect an external mic and it will work "BEAUTIFULLY" The port is on the right side of the laptop next to the dvd/cd drive.

from here download the audio driver and install..

It's probably a bad battery BUT I've noticed this problem pretty often from this model. I would check HP's site for a bios upgrade and I'd also check your warranty status because they just updated they're list of computers that they're extending the warranty on that have the same problem.

You may want to search on eBay for a "parts only" model of the same laptop. Be sure to ask the seller if the lcd is functional and/or tested good before bidding.

If they can hear your breathing that means that you are not speaking in to the microphone, do a microphone test on the computer and see if you hear your own voice. If you don't the program that your using is set to use wrong sound input and the settings will have to be changed.

Laptops work fine on AC power only and won't bother it at all, just make sure you do have charge in the battery and that you don't leave it turned on while you go out or to bed as a power surge could knock it out altogether

you disable shadow and caching in bios at boot ...
at startup you need to hit f10 (modeels may vary)to enter setup(bios)
in bios make required changes save and exit.

Try checking your device manager to make sure that your sound card is still functioning, if it is not it will have a yellow triangle with an explanation mark beside it. If it is not functioning simply reinstall the drivers from hp's website, or delete the driver and reset your computer. Once you have established that your device is properly working, try plugging in some earphones to see if they work. If they do then you likely have a problem with your speekers. If not make sure that your speakers are not muted in the bottom right corner of your task bar (the little speaker icon).

Restore the windows to an earlier date,before you had the problem. 

Mike:   Look in your manual to see how to get to the BIOS setup screen. Find the BIOS shadowing or catching and shut it off.    If you need a manual download it. If you cannot get it going again, doing that . Try using the reload CD's. If you don't have one ,again look in the book and see if it is on the hard drive or wher.e If you need additional help, just ask.
