Boot flash drive
Hi,
Download the HP Format Tool and install it. Get your boot disk or the downloadable files and copy/extract them to a folder on your HD. Make sure anything on your USB Drive is backed up because we are going to format it...
Open the HP Format Tool
Start/Programs/Hewlett-Packard Company/HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool
It should automatically select your USB Drive.
Select FAT or FAT32 Under File System.
Select Create a DOS startup disk
Select using DOS system files located at and point to the folder containing the boot disk files.
Then click Start
Or you can download Win to flash ,follow the bellow link for details,

Touchpad scroll
Go to control panel, click Pen and Touch to enable or disable the Pen and Touch.
Boot order
Go into CMOS config, and see if the usb device can be added to the sequence, save cmos, cold start with usb in machine.
Hp compaq nc6230 boot from usb
Most PCs will not boot usb, unless the CMOS setup configure supports that device as a boot choice on cold start. F10 or does allow whatever key strokes needed before windows logo, will get you into CMOS config. Then look for boot, sequence and see if the usb is an option, if not, no hope for usb boot.
If CMOS config does allow usb boot AND your usb device has been set up to be a boot device,(and you saved the cmos changes) with the proper files...
shut dow, put in usb and cold start.... save
How do I boot to BIOS after CMOS cleared?
Does the computer complete a POST test? In other words do you see the HP/Compaq logo when you first power on the computer? If not then you have a hardware problem, most probable the motherboard. If you see it, then you can try to restore the operating system either with a recovery disc provided by HP or possible a recovery partition. Note the menu options when you power on the computer F10 or F11 is typically to start the recovery process if available.
No sound output
1- check if the volume level is high
2- check if the sound is out from the jack of headphone if so :
1- replace your in speakers
2- use usb speakers
Fan making noise
There are 2 possibilities: First, your fan, air inlet and air outlet are dirty/dusty. In this case you can use canned air to clean them up. If the dust become a dust ball, then you may have to open the laptop's base or just need a tweezer to lift the dust ball. The second possibility is the fan is dying (broken). In this case, you need to replace the fan, and it is not easy (you need to disassemble your laptop) to replace the fan.
