The problem is either the BIOS is not detecting the hard drive or the hard drive is faulty or the disk controller is faulty. Check the BIOS setting to see if it has detected the hard disk, and if there is a hard drive diags run it to test the hard drive. Try reseating the hard drive and if it doesn't work, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port and if this computer detects this as an external hard drive and you can view and open the various folders and files, then the hard drive is OK. If you haven't any files or folders in the hard drive, then format the hard drive from this computer to test this hard drive. If the hard drive is OK then the fault is probably the disk controller. If the hard drive is faulty, then you need a new hard drive in your computer.

I would start by re-installing the video drivers. I Suspect your graphics chip. Sorry not much more help on this one. Before you delete your current drivers make sure you go to the manufactures website and download your drivers there first. Then after you download the new drivers delete you old ones by going to the control panel click system and go to you device manager. Vind you Graphis and delete those driver associated with them. restart and install the driver you previously downloaded. Warning you might be stuck in 16 bit mode while doing this. Issues may clear up.

just push the button on cd tray... then the tray will open. if won't read then maybe your cd is damage or the cd drive got in trouble unable to read. try restarting your system.

Did it display any video at all with boot options or HP logo? Any POST test or beeps after you started the laptop?
Try removing the power ac adapter and battery. then only boot it up with just the AC adapter (no battery).

If you tried to install the windows XP on a failure HDD then it will behave like this.
You need to check your HDD first, Go to your BIOS and run the HDD Self test.
If it successful then Just format your HDD before installation it should work.
If it failed then you need to replace your HDD.
