dv6000, NO OS stated, whY? XP? for now we get bios going first, damn the OS. first take the old shorted main battery out, run on AC only. run now? fan must blow first does it? also the CCLF go dead, at 20k hours used. black screens for ever now. CCLF is dead LCD backlamps. but fan dead is other issue. the COin cell goes bad now, ever replace that? HP RTC coin cell battery , tiny, a $2 fix. they dont last for 11 years, sorry. power button dead? fan dead,? screen dead. (never ever shows text)??? hdd does not spin making normal noise? cd eject button dead.? no beeps? no caps lock blink codes.? the AC pack is dead if the PC is %100 dead on AC most times I can show you 10 to 20 more things inside that can do that. takes a full dismantle to fix some, My guess a shop repair is not in the cards?

try using a real HP driver yet? downloaded from whom, most non HP sites are virus pits from H3LL. know that first. finding drivers for obsolete systems is super hard work. Pavilion dv6000 (is that the full partnumber or the useless series number)? post the service tag for 10x better answers. if at HP.com (where you should have gone first) they demand that first. that is because, there are 50 LT in that series.or more and guess what they all dont use the same chips nor cameras. carbon date,,,, 2006 ,2007? just about 10 years old and support ends at 10 years old XP is dead now for 3 years why run XP XP must have SP3 loaded, service pack 3 or USB is no good and vast other things super bad.. I went into the control panel /remove or change programs and removed mediabar. It worked. I did not have to take out my bear share.

The problem is the software driver that will make your sound device is not installed.install the device driver.this wiil cure the problem.

1. try to use other dvds like a movie if not recognize, 2. clean the laser eye beam 3. try again if fail 4. replace drive

try to connect to external monitor to see if all looks ok. If works ok with external monitor replace screen or cable that connect screen with motherboard

Go to service. You can damage the motherboard.

I have the same problem with my hp pavilion! ive tried everything and cant get anything to appear on the screen. Keeps rebooting every 15 sec or so. Did you ever find a solution to this?

Did you look in the last place you put it? Just a joke. Anyway, Is it muted? Volume up? Have you done ANY updates or OS upgrades? In Device Manager is it enabled? Driver OK? Is the sound icon in the Tray Notification Area? What does it read? Do you have headphones pluged in? You didn't provide much to work with.

The easiest way to clean the laptop up is to reinstall windows and reformat the hard drive. Was there a set of recovery disks/CDs with this laptop? If so you can do a system recovery and get it to factory specs. If no disks are available you may be able to create them yourself. information on this procedure should be on the HP web site where you may be able to purchase a set of disks/CDs. Unfortunately, yes....You cannot purchase a new KEY.

If you have an old keyboard, or you can go to any of the local shops, they might have wasted keyboard.....And you can ask for a single key.

Depends on your OS the most common to fix is in control panel.Look for "languages region clock" and do the changes.

I am assuming you are trying to reinstall Vista. Apparently, HP's recovery partition is less than perfect and the recovery disc you created is probably worthless. (and you can NOT make another one, they only let you make one!) You are not the only person to have this issue.

Here are some things you can try:
1) Borrow an OEM version of Vista from someone...anyone. It sounds like you are proficient with PC's and maybe you know someone who works in IT. Use your product key (25 digit key code) and you should be able to reinstall.

2) if you like Vista, buy yourself an OEM version. It will not have all the factory (HP, Dell, Acer, whatever) BS on it. It will positively work because your hardware if fine.

3) Put XP on it. Personally, I think Vista is a mess. Microsoft is working on "OS7" and soon Vista will be like "Millennium".

Sorry it's not an easy fix, but glad your hard drive and memory show no errors.

Your Pavilion DV6000 laptop is the key to your productivity, which is why it is essential that it turns on when you need it. The DV6000 is lighter than comparable models from other brands, and has a large, sharp display. While it has plenty of processing power, the DV6000 can have normal boot problems as well as problems caused by faulty battery packs that were installed in some units. Attempt to troubleshoot the laptop and find out if the laptop is eligible for a new battery pack.

1.Hard reset your laptop if there is no life at all. Unplug all peripheral devices and remove the battery. Unplug the AC cable and press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all power. Reconnect the AC cable and hit the power button.
2.Verify that the battery pack is on the recall list if the laptop powers up without it. Fill out the form on the battery pack recall website (http://bpr.hpordercenter.com/hbpr/). You will have to input the serial number of the battery pack as well as a location to ship the replacement battery if you are eligible.
3.Hold the AC cable where it plugs into the laptop and wiggle it while hitting the power button one time. LEDs that come on and off intermittently indicate a faulty power cable. Order a replacement power cable through HP or a third-party vendor.
4.Write down any visual or audio error codes such as LEDs blinking or unusual beeping. The error sequence will be helpful when talking to an HP support person.

With the battery running that low and not accepting anything you will need to consider buying a new charger, as for the system is running slow try un-installing all un-wanted programmes from your computer as this is taking up space and processing power, run a De fragmentation on your hard drive which can me done by double clicking on your My computer then Right click your C Drive and going to properties then click on de fragment with will speed up your system a bit, delete all un-wanted films, pictures and music will also speed up your system
