In order to unlock your hard disk drive. You have to open your laptop and look for the cmos battery, cmos battery is a small circle dry cell and its number is CR2032. The cmos battery are responsible for holding the bios settings like the system date and time. The purpose of removing the battery is to clear the settings you save in your bios/cmos settings, just remove from its base and put i back after 10 seconds.
