It won't turn on
Check thisIf you remove the battery, disconnect the power cord, let the PC sit 5 mins, then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. THEN, reconnect the power cord (battery still out of laptop), it will probably start up properly. Put the battery back in after the startup.I don't know why or what this indicates, but it works 90% of the time.I've read that resynching the battery will help, but I see no better sucess rate after trying that.Ciao Y'all,Bob

How do I replace a gateway laptop motherboard
Replacing the motherboard is very sensitive and one of the difficult things to do when it comes to laptop for the reason because its very compact, if you are not an expert it is strongly not recomended to do that as you may face many problems doing it r doing that may give rise to other problems. In that case please counsult a technician.
However if you want to do it, first of all unplug the power remove the battery and then you have to take out all the screws at the bottom chasie and then you will be able to remove the motherboard.
See manuel for diagrams and more help.

How do you turn off the wireless on the mt3418

Wireless card/driver not working properly.
If it is indeed a hardware problem, and your wireless card cannot be repaired or coaxed into giving you better reception, I would advise buying an external adapter. You can get a cheap USB adapter for under $20 that may suit your needs. That is certainly a better solution than paying for an operating system, assuming that you don't already own it.
The software should not affect your computer's performance, so reinstalling vista will probably not work. Realtek has awful drivers, so I'm not surprised that you are unable to connect.
While deterioration of the card should not be able to occur, I have had it happen with my equipment as well, and it may be a symptom of extreme temperatures, if your laptop gets really hot.
Signal deterioration can also occur if your router has been moved towards solid metal objects (walls, too) or if new networks have been introduced in your area (causing interference)
