My front loading whirlpool duet
It appears your thermistor (thermocouple) or gas valve solenoid has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Whirlpool mod # WGD5300SQ0 gas dryer gets hot but
by all means when dealing with natural gas consult only trained professionals....as natural gas does not have an odor..the odor that you smell is an actually additive that has been place for just this reason.

Gas dryer quit heating
Hi there,
Well if your dryer tumbles, but there is no heat then you may please check out the following -
1. First of all you can check out for proper air flow - Check the vent for proper air flow by placing your hand over the exterior vent while the dryer is running. You should feel a strong flow of air. If not then check the lint trap. It is located either on top of the dryer or possibly just inside the door. Remove any lint that has built up in the lint trap. Cleaning the lint trap should be done regularly, even as often as after every load. Do not operate the dryer without a lint trap in place.
2. Secondly you can check out the Ignitor - gas dryer blows air through a burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low or no heat and slow drying of the clothes. Post comments for further help or information.....
Good Luck!!
Thanks for using FixYa!!

My whirlpool ultimate care II
As you may know the gas continually comes on and off all through the cycle to regulate the heat. So the ig nitor and flame sensor is working because you hear it. But the lack of heat is due to faulty solenoid coils getting hot and quitting. When they cool off they work just a little bit more. Very hard to diagnose but easy to fix. Just get some new coils
Drop the bottom panel and you can access the gas assembly If you need further help, reach me via phone at

No glow plug glow, hooked up a pigtail, it works
Your service manual, or wiring diagram for this machine should be located in the control panel housing.
Most likely you have a blown thermal fuse. This part is located on your blower housing right behind the lint screen duct. The power for your gas valve/burner assembly is routed through this part and will be cut off should the drum temperature get too high during operation. The part is a skinny white colored item with a black strip down the center, a quick check would be to see if it has continuity, or simply bypass it briefly to check it. DO NOT leave the part bypassed.
To access the part remove your lower front access panel, remove the lint screen for m the dryer and then remove the two quarter inch screws on either side of the lint filter housing to remove the housing.
The part number is a 3392519 thermal fuse.
Good luck to you on this.

Whirlpool ultimate care ii gas-I found the fuse,
It is a thermal fuse, it trips by temperature rather than too much electrical current. You can test it with an ohmmeter. If good it will read 0 ohms (needle moves all the way over), if bad it would read infinite ohms (no needle movement)

No heating?
If the unit runs and heats for a short time, then only runs without heating, it may have bad gas coils(2 solenoids that are screwed on to top of gas valve)
If the unit runs without any heating would check the ignitor or the thermal fuse.(ignitor is fragile)
Check it is not accidentally set in air fluff....
Most all whirlpool dryers are front serviceable by lifting the top(two screws by air filter and putty knife pushing in about two inches on each side in front) Some have a lower front panel, most you remove the front to access parts. Sharp edges and unplug while servicing. The ignitor and thermal fuses can be ohmed out at a service store. There are other possibilities, these are the most common, good luck.
