Cold air sinks. If evaporator temp is not low enough only the items on bottom of freezer will get cold and possibly freeze - stuff on top will not. Throw a digital thermometer in there towards the top shelves and I bet your temps are high. Low refrigerant will cause this; furthermore, if you leave the refrigerator door open by accident, the refrigerator will never shut off, the freezer evaporator will freeze over with a block of ice, and the freezer temps will be higher. If that is what happened, simply unplug the unit and allow it to self defrost and then turn it back on for proper operation and make sure that the refrigerator door is properly closed!

I assume that the water is on the bottom of the fridge compartment? It could be that the drain trough has blocked and every time the fridge does an auto defrost, water runs out onto the floor of the fridge rather than down the drain. Once the defrost finishes, the water will stay on the floor of the fridge. Cold air falls to the bottom so its possible to get a sheet of ice in the bottom of the fridge. Locate the drain trough in the back wall of the fridge. See if you can visually locate any blockages or carefully dribble warm water down the drain to clear it.

It uses the same compressor for both. One of two things, the opening that is allowing cold air in the freezer , is closed or the freon is leaking out and it will be soon before the fridge is not working.

Yes I could be. My advice, if this freezer is 10-12 years old or more, you may be getting ready to spend a lot of money starting now. If not, have somebody physically look at it. Hopefully, it is just the relay or capacitor.

You have a part going bad or a faulty read . Refer to your manual and see what it says under troubleshooting.

I need you to feel the top of the compressor and tell me how hot it is. Also tell me if the condenser fan next to the compressor is running. Hopefully this is the only problem causing your freezer to stop freezing as well. If the 4356738 Start Relay is defective it will cause the problems by not allowing the compressor to run or start very well also cause the top of the compressor to overheat.
