Bios update for gateway m7315u
Gateway does not currently have an update Bios available for your
system. What that means is that they have not received/tested/released
an update.
This system uses a Phoenix Technologies Bios. It is possible that they
have released a Bios revision that Gateway has not released. If you go
to Phoenix.com and click on Bios updates near the bottom, it links to
BiosAgentPlus, a free application that will scan your system and
provide you with information on obtain an updated Bios if it's
available.
You want to be very cautious using this though. Your Gateway system is
a n OEM product, meaning that when Gateway put this system together
they have permission to make changes to the system as needed including
the motherboard. It is possible that an update that this or any
software that is not provided by gateway finds may not work and could
cause problems. An incompatible Bios update could render your computer
inoperable.
It appears this BiosAgentPlus application will also scan for updated
drivers. More times than not using non-gateway provided drivers do not
work. This is esspeically true with laptops. Don't download everything
it suggests unless you are having a specific problem with that item. If
it's not broken - don't try to fix it, especially with a non-OEM driver.
Are you certain that you need an update at this time? If you do not
have a specific need that the update was written to solve, then it's
best to leave it alone.
How do you take the case off?
Have you removed all the accessories such as the hard drive, cd rom, network card? There are screws under those items.

If you check in with different computer repair centers in your local area, you can also check in with them, see if the technicians there keep a library of restore disks. I work at a tech shop myself, and we usually carry an extensive library of different restore disks for various notebooks and desktops.

Only do this if you feel competent in doing so.
Pulling apart laptops is not for the faint of heart.
If you really must do it there are some good guides here.
An alternative is to get a can of compressed air used to clean computers. Put the nozzle on and spray it in every hole you can see without putting the nozzle itself inside the laptop.
Do this outside with glasses on.
You may also want to remove the hard drive and ROM drive.
Take a peek here for more ideas of what is involved.
There are a few are tips for various things in there.
DON'T touch the CPU cooler unless you know what you are doing and have some thermal grease for CPUs to hand.
To make newer laptops last longer between cleaning a good 3 fan cooling pad is suggested.
never use a laptop on soft surfaces as the ventilation can act as a mini vacuum cleaner and encourage dirt build up.
Soft surfaces also block the vents causing fans to run more and burn out sooner.
