I put DVD in, how do I start the movie
Normally it should start when you close the DVD door and it completes reading it.
It sounds as if yours does not so we need to try something else.
Find windows media player. Open it and see if it can read the DVD. Let me know the results.
My laptop whene i turn it on it starts to update
You have been attacked by a virus. Total take over!
Just find a way to slave your hard disk, either as an external or over a network.
From a computer with an Antivirus software that is updated, scan the disk and eliminate all viruses found.
When done, backup your files and format the hard disk.
Then, use a bootable CD to setup the system again.
My profile on my computer runs very slow or not at
You need to check what services and programs startup with your PC, and remove them as necessary, you really do not need things starting up when Windows boots. Use the msconfig command to do it. Go START>>RUN>>msconfig (enter) ansd a window will come up, go to startup and have a look there, delete anything you don't want to start, do the same for the Services tab, Hide all Microsoft services, and have a look at the rest, shut down, whatever ones you do not want to start.
Check Virus, go to
housecall.trendmicro.com/
Let it run a full free virus scan and removal, this way you can be sure it's not a virus,
Go to My Computer, right click, on HDD icon, and select Properties, when it comes up, Do a Disk Cleanup. After that, do a "Defragment". This should speed up your system no end.

My F1 controls are not working, speaker volume,
Sir,
I need to ask one Q ?
Did you do any Autoupdate from Microsoft site ?
if yes then some corruption has occured in your system files by the update.
The only option is to reformat the disk and reinstall the WinOS.
Restore is not working as it's not enabled in the option in the setup menu.
The touchpad on my gateway laptop is not working
On most laptops there is a button to turn it on and off. Look for a button that has a FN on it or any button near your touch pad. If either one of those do not work try updating your driver for the touch pad.
Screen flashes or goes dark
could be a few things ,internal graphics mite be on way out or it could be the invertor or backlight etc..if still under warrenty take it back for a replacement or repair if not id vist your local pc shop and ask them to inspect it and pinpoint the problem before buying any expensive replacement parts
Cursour jumps around
This problem is probably caused by accidentally hitting the pointer device in the centre of the keyboard when typing.
To avoid this issue you need to disable the pointer device. This can normally be done through the Control Panel settings, but you haven't specified your operating system (e.g. Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7)
If you reply here and tell me what your operating system is I will be pleased to give you detailed instruction on how to discable the pointing device.
I have a Gateway and the hard drive crashed.
It sounds like your camera recovery disk is what's giving you your problems. You can do what ever you feel is right for this situation but my best advice would be to try to remove the camera recovery disk and see if that helps this problem
Gateway laptop shuts off even when plugged in
Well, I'm not exactly sure if it is the cooling fan (you would have to see if its working), but it definitely could be an overheating problem. Another problem could actually be the battery, even if you have it plugged in, the battery can still cause it to shut down. If your computer is able, I would try using it without the battery and see what happens. And I believe that the cooling fan will fit.
Here is a good site to help you troubleshoot your problem
No lights, no signs of power, no warning
Well, if you kept the AC power adapter connected when you tried to do the "power flush" then you did it wrong. :) No offense, but you can't have power connected when you're trying to flush the power from the capacitors.
Disconnect AC power and battery. Then press the power button down for about 3 seconds, 10 or 12 times. Then reconnect AC power and try powering up.
Ultimately, it appears to be a motherboard issue. This is not unusual for a laptop that is several years old, no matter how well you maintained it. There also might be a short that has developed somewhere internally, sometimes the protective shielding between the layers of electronics moves. I have a x31 Thinkpad that I had to completely disassemble and reassemble to solve this same problem. Thankfully, it wasn't a mobo problem, just a shield that needed to be moved back into place.
Coil Part Number for Gateway MT3707 Inverter Board
Hi
Thnak you for your query
You will have to replace the WHOLE inverter board, not just part of it
The inverter is responsible for taking 12V supply and converting the power to a higher volatage to allow the screen to light up
I would suggest that you book the laptop into a reputable PC shop to complete the repair
If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again
'CEC_main.exe'
Hello edlady,
The CEC_main.exe file is a webcam related program. Kaspersky is blocking this program for some reason and is creating this conflict when your gateway tries to find this file at startup. To fix this do the following.
- Open Kaspersky
- Click "My Security Zone"
- Unblock the webcam application and save.
- Close Kaspersky and restart your comptuer.
Hopefully this solves the issue. If it does please leave positive feedback.
Laptop is so slow when closing down
If you have not installed anything, any programs or games,
anti-spyware ,anti-virus, and nothing set to auto. Then you just might have registry errors.
But if you have installed anything, some can hang on.
There is a registry hack to let it shutdown and close anything running quicker.
in XP & Vista
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/desktop
Double click on desktop,
in the key field, find (wait to kill app timeout) double click on it
and (edit string will open ) if it says 5000- reduce to 3000.
Says 3000- reduce to 2000.
In windows 7- it in a different place.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL
Double click on control and in key field -double click on (wait to kill service timeout) if 5000, reduce to 2000.
***** Set a restore point before you ever edit the registry******
I keep entering the address and all I need to do
Go to the Start Menu, click on "All Program, in the list; scroll to find: Gateway Registration., select to open site, and follow all the instructions. "Did this solution help? If so, Helpful Rating Feedback, is appreciated, thanks paul7of9"
