Press Menu/Select button while phone is not in use. Press Menuu/Select button to choose Ans System. Press arrow up or arrow down to choose Ans System Setup, press Menu/Select button. Press arrow up or arrow down to choose Announcement, press Menu/Select button. You will hear the prompt "To play press 2, to record press 7. Press 7. Mine turned out to be not getting power from the surge protector.  Plugged it into the wall and it worked again.  If the power light is off to the base station it is not getting power and won't connect.  I know this is a duh, but I missed it.  Probably not what is wrong with yours.
