Hi.This is a
guide to repair dodgy remote control buttons. This procedure is about
sorting out dodgy buttons. If you remote does not go at all, they
following may not help I will work several times generally, although
some silicon/carbon contacts can become RS This procedure also works if you have a remote with coffee, coke, or other beverage spilt on it
You will need
- A med or thin guitar
plectrum(pic)
- Methylated spirits
- Lint free cloth(tea towel will do).
Now I will take you through opening and cleaning
the remote keypad.
- Remove clip on cover and batteries
- Slip the guitar
pic under the edge of the remote.
- Run it around
whilst gently levering the cases apart
- It will open with
some patient effort and then pretty much fall to pieces
If the remote
HAS HAD A DRINK..... wash all parts in warm mildly soapy(dishwash in kitchen sink). DRY PCB IN THE SUN, or on TOP OF A TABLE LAMP.
Dont dry the plastic casings this way... they can melt!! Just leave them in the open air
- Clean the
pcb/contact board by gently wiping with the cloth moistened with metho
- Clean the silicon rubber button
contact pads.
- Be sure that no
bits of lint or residue are left on either the pcb or the contact
rubbers.
- Let dry for 15
mins to be sure no condensate moisture or metho is left on
boards or button assly
- Reassemble by
layering parts and clip together
- check that terminals are not corroded. Use an emery
nail file to buff them up if there is corrosion. Spray contacts with
CRC2-26 or WD40
- Reinsert batteries(fresh
ones) and test on appliance. You can also see a remotes Infrared LED
flashing when it is working by viewing it with a a phone camera, or
camcorder
This process will cure most dodgy button problems.
If they are still not good, try the process again.... or a new rubber contact sheet may need
to be fitted. In the case of universal remotes, cost will probably
dictate buying a new one anyway.Good luck and go FixYa!!
If your remote still has problems there are yet other cures. I will post more as time allows. ;)
