My lexmark x2500 series doesnt work when using the scanner. It gives message on computer that windows experience problem will notify me of solution when available windows will close
Try reinstalling the drivers.

So I got this new printer, a nice Lexmark X5495 all-in-one, fax, scan, copy, photos, prints, all the bells & whistles, right? I install it step by step just like it tells me to do. Everything shows fine, all appears hunky dory. Go to control panel, it says ready, big happy checkmark, it's set as default printer, it's online. Just one problem, it won't print. I get this nasty message that says there's no communication between the computer and printer. I tried 3 different USB cables. I unplugged, restarted, rebooted, tried every USB port on my puter, no go. Same thing. I checked windows firewall, the Lexmark stuff is all checked as exceptions, meaning they are being allowed through. I deleted the other 2 printers from the system. I uninstalled the new printer and reinstalled it - 5 times. I just have the feeling it's something in where the USB cable is hooked up. I have 4 USB ports in the back of the puter. I have 3 in front. All the troubleshooters tell me to check the USB connections and cables, then restart. No go. Same thing. I have Windows XP Home. I have listed this problem under Lexmark X5470 cause the 5495 wasn't listed.
I've been at it for 5 hours now. I know it's something simple and stupid, but that's me - simple and stupid. Any ideas?
i am receiving the same message My printer is not communicating with my computer. control panel indicates it is on online and ready. I have disconnected, reconnected several times. What am I to do.
is the printer in its own USB port? Some printers that "talk back" to the PC do not like to share a port so do not have it on a USB HUB.

My 2500 series lexmark that i bought a couple months ago just ran out of black ink. I refilled it with a nukote kit from walmart, but it wont recognize that it has been refilled. Is there any way to reset the black ink level. Keeps telling me that the black ink is empty and wont let me print anything. It wants me to go to lexmark.com and buy a new cartridge. Fat chance! I will trash this thing if i cant use the cheap refill kits. I am wondering if lexmark codes each of their ink cartridges or something so you cannot refill them.
Hey....I solved the lexmark out of ink problem!!!HA!!! what you have to do if you want to refill these is "pop" off the top of the cartridge. It is not easy as it is glued down...using a small screwdriver preferably a small flat jewelers screw driver you can peel back the plastic that seperates the "lid" of the ink cartridge. you have to use a little force but you can get it off. Once you do this the cartridge will always read full!!!!!! just tape it or super glue it back on. You never have to take it off again! although I recomend cleaning the ink sponges inside every 3 refills. but this works great.....ha ha lexmark.....I got ya!!!!

Is it possible to reset a Lexmark 36 Black cartridge? I've got a X4650 Wireless all in one printer. I print a lot and was wondering how to reset the cartridge so that I could refill it?
BINGO just refill my 36 and printing :) just place tape (2) on the bottom the outside points
ONLY THE ONE OUTSIDE BOTH SIDES :) :) :)
HP his something like this too. 2nd try BINGO IT WORK drill right hole place tape back over refill hole LOL

When I go to the Actual LEXMARK support site... Their driver is missing the OCR, (ability to scan & recognize text)
The driver instalation disk included with the printer is missing it as well.
HOW do I find downladable software for the OCR?
Sometimes companies only support only the basic drivers. The OCR software is on the CD (s) that came with the printer. Suggestion. Try to order the original CD from Lexmark., or search Ebay for programs that have OCR capability. You can use OCR programs from other vendors as long as they are stand-a-lone programs. Just make sure you have the original disc so as not to infringe on copyright privileges.
Note: you can buy OCR programs. Check Ebay and Amazon. They are usually better that the programs that come on the OEM disk.

When I refill the cartridge the printer does not recognise or reset the ink levels and will not print. So I have to purchase a new one.
Do they have chip which has to be reset.
To get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P

Can the Lexmark No 14 and No 15 cartridges be refilled and reset? Is it just the A version that can be reused?
It works, just used my #14 lexmark after refill. I put tape on the 4 bottom points of each sides. You will see 1 alone at the bottom and 3 in a group in the middle, tape the 4 and do the same on the other side. Put it back in the printer and it works... It will dispay a '?' on the ink cartridge level and status when you print.

Take a small pice of clear tape. Try covering one of the outside vertical row of contacts at thr front of the cartridge. Re-insert it and it shoudl "fool" the printer into thinking it is a new cartridge. It works for my Lexmark 2600 series all in one
