Hello,
the first step will be to verify your power supply. When it is plugged to the wall power outlet, it should be silent (no hissing or high pitch noise) and the green light should be on on the power supply.. If it is not the case, replacing it might solve your problems.
Second step is to verify if it is an interface problem. Try using a different port on the drive.
If no success, start Disk Utility and look to the left if you have any mention of a drive of 1TB. If you do, the partition of your drive might be corrupted. You can try running First Aid from Disk utility if its available, else you will need to try a partition repair software or a Data recovery program.
There are a few available that you can get a free copy to see if the data is available before you buy.

Hello,
Thanks for providing a great description of your drive and sounds. It sounds like your drive is suffering from the dreaded click of death. This happens for a few reasons the most common of which is a head failure. This would seem most likely as heads can easily crash if the drive is bumped or dropped while running.
To fix this issue you will require a professional lab with a clean room to open the drive and transplant a new head assembly into the device. This procedure generally runs anywhere from $1200-$1500 depending on the model of hard drive inside the LaCie enclosure.
I am a data recovery technician and can recommend a lab near you if you decide the data on the drive is worth the cost of recovery, if not I would simply recommend purchasing a new drive and always keeping your data on a minimum of 2 places/drives preferably 3 places so failures like this never cost you more than the price of a new drive.
If you decide to attempt a recovery, simply reply to this answer with your lacie model information and location(Country, State, City) and I will refer you to a nearby facility with a clean room.
Hope this helps FixYa,
Chris

LaCie 1TB external hard drive is not registering
Hello
Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.
Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external ,
go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk
Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your
local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the
drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".
If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your
computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.
Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your
computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem
is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.
Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.
- The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
- The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
- The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The
latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all
when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem.
On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use
to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will
cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a
clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be
free.
The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If
you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer
functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should
be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last
step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you
can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.
The
last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey
zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it
failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the
external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened
components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other
components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty
part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the
time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it
still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working
perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is
to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.
A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.
I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.
Kind Regards
Andrea
I had 4 LaCie 2TB Big Disk Quadra, Item 301343U.
Let's not take this as a solution so much as an intuition. I believe you may have run up against a limit of physical disk space that XP can administrate.
DO me a favor and don't give my rating a thrashing if I'm wrong.

Marcus
Computer doesw not recognize the drive
might have gone.. do not go for diskchk..first backup your data.. then go for disc chek..
then, try connecting ur drive on some other PC as a slave,,, and check if it is detected..if it is found, then its ok.. otherwise see

My Lacie was working fine
Hi,
THis happens in many cases that after the hard disc is plugged out by force the connectors connecting the drive board(mother board) to the usb port become loose or break.
The ideal and the only slution is to do a repair job which would involve soldering the product...and a repairmen should be able to dothe jaob and fix the issue.
It was ok testerday but
hi,
You might want to check different cable and see if the disk is getting detected, just to be sure that you dont have a faulty wire.
If its not the wire then for sure...which i suspect is a broken connection of the drive from the port which woukd require some soldering to be done.
You should stop trying to use the drive or make more test to it and just get it soldered by a technician....(Soldering of the drive board to the usb port pin part)
This will resolve your problem , and further on please avoid brutually unplugging the drive.
Hear disk spinning in hard drive but my mac won't
This is probaly file errors on the disk that have generated over time. The problem is that your mac software wont load up the drive unless it is formatted or accessed in DOS. There are some freeware programes which you can download which recover hard drive from DOS (spinrite etc). If you cant access this in DOS with the software then the hard drive is trash.
The main problem of all this is that this is almost symptoms of a hard drive faliure or future faliure. If you get the info off your drive back it up defrag and format the drive every year.
Bear in mind Hard drives only have a lifespan of 1-3 years. In addition try not to fill them over 60% as your drive will last a lot longer.
hope you can rescue your drive.
