Whirlpool GH8155XJ Microwave Oven Questions & Answers
Microwave makes loud noise and does not heat. Smell of light burning
The noise is coming from the high-voltage transformer being overloaded
by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the
high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and
diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only
affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup
"universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!

Microwave shuts off by itself
The microwave has a safety door switches (2-3 micro switches)
The door mechanism should hit these micro switches. If you can open the machine, you can see that these micro switch has a holder that you can adjust and tighten to make sure that the hook of the door should activate them.

Replacing underneath lights
If the owner's manual does not address it, then some disassembly may be
required.
You didn't mention your model number or even your brand, but since you posted it
under Whirlpool, maybe it's a Whirlpool.
You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions
here.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your
full model number
here.
Always be sure to unplug the oven or turn off its
breaker before removing or installing the bulbs.
Failure to do so may result in damage that could require
circuit board repair.

It's important that high-current devices like microwaves be on their own dedicated breaker.I would suspect the 20A fuse and then the oven cavity thermostats, in that order.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating
components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full
model number from the tag on the oven here.Accessing some
components (such as the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to
remove the oven from the wall.
If
so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have
two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation
instructions here.

Makes loud hum noise but does heat
That is a symptom that the magnetron circuit has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. Not worth fixing since the replacement part can cost as much as as a new oven. Sorry.

Have microwave hood combo and have F6 code on
"F6" on Whirlpool models means you have a shorted cook relay on the main circuit board.
We regularly repair these control panel assemblies for $39.95 postpaid nationwide. Details are
here.
Or you can purchase a new circuit board (part number 8183726 (a.k.a. AP3038853) for $205.88 plus shipping from
the Pros here. They're our favorite supplier.
It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.Next, disconnect the keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your old circuit board in the frame.
Some connectors may have a lock.
Swap the boards and reverse the steps to reassemble.

The handle is broken on my Whirlpool Microwave
Welcome to FixYa
- Remove screws on top at front in order to remove plastic front vent grill. Some times thin screwdriver or small knife and carefully insert along the inner panel and pry the plastic up.
- The door lifts off pin hinges. Lay door flat on surface. Plastic trim snaps off with gentle prying (start at bottom middle and bottom hinge side). Then remove screws holding notched metal section with door latch. This piece will also snap out (several visible clips holding it around edges). Then remove door handle screws, Replace handle and reverse process to put back together.

Have whirlpool gold accuwave micro hood combo model# GH51884XPS5
The inspector is correct, air should be coming through the top louvers, although you sometimes will have a little air coming from the sides and back. Drop the microwave and see which way the blower is rotated, towards the louvers or towards the back or top. Some units also have a panel that blocks the venting from going the wrong way. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Microwave pops and sparks when running. Nothing
in the top of unit is a round cover and damage is coming from here. This is serious and needs to be checked out. the cover contains a stirrer that moves waves around<<circulates them>> in this cavity probably paint is thin and allowing waves to penetrate metal of cabinet. Call manufacturer and see if there is anything they will do for you before taking it upon yourself to either get repairman or get rid of unit.stirrer is probably damaged and cabinet burned from waves.

This is not too difficult to fix for the average do-it-yourselfer.
