Lenovo T61 running slow - 3 years old..

There are so many reasons can cause your Lenovo T61 computer running slow than it used to, it is hard to identify just what might be dragging down your Lenovo's performance, let alone implement the necessary technical adjustments to fix it. So if you want to address the issues more easily, I'll recommend you try a Lenovo speed up software, available here: http://www.speeduplenovo.com/Over 10+ small utilities packed into one to help detect & fix all slowdowns in 1 click.

T61 Boot up Problem

Try registering the DLL. Use regsvr32 xxxxx.dll in run or cmd. Of course regsvr32.exe has to be in your system. It's been a while since I've used the command so I don't have more info.

Welcome to Fixya

Try to perform power drain to the system. Take out the battery and unplug the power from the wall. Press and hold the power button for 15 secs. Plug in the power afapter then trun on the computer.

If same thing will happen, try to use external monitor and connect it to your laptop. If still no display then the problem is the onboard video card.

When i choose start windows normally it just freeze

This indicates a hard drive issue, first remove one ram memory and try again, no change! remove the second piece and put back the first and power up, if there is no change the hardware needs to be tested.

How to unlock lenovo e520 laptop, password not working

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery. If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode. Click Start/Control Panel/User AccountsWhen the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD. Reboot your machine.

All time my z icon is lighiting but my laptop is not running. What can i do now?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord? When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugsinto the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside thejack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have totake the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto themotherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

T61 Screen flicker and distortion.

Sometimes if the machine overheats it can weaken the solder points on a video chip so that if you touch it or bend a bit it straightens out and works fine. You can get that repaired board can be re-soldered by a company that does that sort of thing. For around $40-$80 dollars you have to ship the board and have it done. Usually pretty fast service. or it seems that maybe you may get lucky here cable monitor could be slightly wire pinched. You will need to take Monitor and cover plate off the front of the keyboard where the power button is located and check the connection it may also just need a good cleaning or make sure it is not pinching anywhere and is straight forward. This happens sometimes with monitors for laptops the moving monitor back and forth over time can cause wear on the wiring. I would check that first wiring then clean the connection with rubbing alcohol the kind that drys out. While you at it I would also dust it out good especially the copper tube vent ports make sure they are free of debris. If this does not solve the problem also check the lamp. Hopefully it is not the screen going bad itself. It does seem to me to be the monitor cable pinching on you or shorting check that out good. Or have a pro shop do it for you. I hope that assisted you? John

Keyboard on laptop is locked

Keyboard is locked? No keys work or are you saying the Mouse and Touchpad is locked?Try booting up in Safe Mode and see if it is still happening.Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.Sometimes a virus hijacks the keyboard or mouse. If any of the above did not solve your problem then run a virus scan.

password for what? bios or windows?
if it's the windows password, press the f8 key before windows starts and choose safe mode, choose administrator for the username and then go to user accounts and remove the password for your account.
if it's the bios password, you have to strip the laptop and pull the bios battery on the system...it looks like a large watch battery but becarefull not to break anything.

What does 1 long beep 2 short beeps on T61 ThinkPad?

The4 beep is suggesting a lack of one device ...either the ram memory is out of order or not making the right contact ..or the video card is to blame ...In second case it is possible to boot up and hear the windows sound..but not always ..if it is the only card present it may not boot without and make those beeping sounds..try to check on the ram memory first ..and see what you can manage ...remove them all ...do not touch directly and handle them by the edges..place them back ..and try them one by one if they are more than one ..and see if you find a faulty one ..(usually if you have 2 and one is faulty the computer will boot with the one working .or at least will try ..if the OS is needing more ram to work .)if you check the ram memory ..(try them in another computer ) and they seam ok ..than you have to consider changing the video card ..If this is a on board one ..use a external one ..or a pci one if you have a slot..or change the motherboard.

I am planning to buy T60 thinkpad, CPU is 1.6 GHz,

I don't believe it will because the heat sink and CPU screws won't line up and the CPU is smaller but i'm not for sure. The board architecture is the same but the form factor i believe is different.I'm sorry but i can't say for sure and i don't want to lead you to a bad conclusion.
