CANNOT RECHARGE TOMTOM
If you have the green light lit on top of the tomtom but it won't switch on , then you have a condition commonly known as "the Green Light Syndrome". Most likely cause is blown components inside the tomtom that regulate voltage. The reason they blow is usually due to user connecting incorrect charger ( such as a 12v one for a phone ) or sometimes the tomtom charger goes faulty and instead of ouputting 5 voltas it outputs 12 volts and damages the tomtom inside. the parts are not easily repalced and require a specialist repair centre that has good experience of repairing tomtoms. You cannot repair it yourself using a normal soldering iron. Good luck.
Tomtom
You would have to seriously abuse your tomtom for the battery to have failed. More likely something else is wrong . Anyway , ere goes : Take 4 screws out of back of tomtom ( these are star screws so you will need a special tool but sometimes an allen key will fit. ) At the top / side of the tomtom where you can see the join of plastic between back and front. Pull apart with your fingers . Its tricky but keep trying and eventually it will come apart a little. From that you can release it from the bottom connectors by pushing the back downwards a little against the base of the front. A little waddle and it will part. The batter is located in the back panel and is held in place with a sticky pad. The battery wires terminate in a small plug connected to the main board. The Battery should be marked " Edinburgh " and should be rated at 3.7 volts 1100mAh. Once again , its very unlikely there is any fault with the battery , more likely to be the charger or charging circuit inside the tomtom.

Screen
I have found out from someone I know that the covering sheet is also the touch screen for the tomtom, the only solution is to buy a replacement screen, which will cost around the £50 mark.
