Garmin does not do free. If you bought a new unit - - brand new they give you one free update IF - and only IF - the maps on your new one isn't current.

You might just need to recalibrate the screen. Start by getting to the SETTINGS > DISPLAY page. Select RECALIBRATE and follow the directions.

Now, if the screen doesn't respond at all, you'll probably have to arrange for service. Contact Garmin Support for additional help with your nuvi 670 below:

The best thing to do to fix the freezing problem you describe would be a reset. To perform a reset on your Garmin GPS, press down on the top left corner of the screen while also pressing the power button. It will ask you if you would like to clear your data, and choose yes to perform the reset. Make sure you do a computer backup of your data first if you have anything important that you need to save.

I assume you've checked that it's not muted or that the volume is not fully down.

• Press TOOLS at the bottom right corner of the screen that says WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
• Press SETTINGS
• Press LANGUAGE

This brings you to a screen with 3 items. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD

• Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice. This may solve the problem. If it doesn't it may be because the voice file is corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.

To download it again,

• Download and install WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
• Connect your satnav to your computer and run webupdater
• It will search for updates to your software and if it finds some it will install them. When the installation is complete it will give you the option to download some extras including voice files.
  
• Select the voices you want by ticking them and click next to download them to your satnav.
• When they are downloaded you'll need to select the one you want by going back to the LANGUAGE icon and pressing VOICE as described in the first paragraph above.
  

Garmin uses a connector that has a hinged part that flips up to release the ribbon cable. You can't slide the touchscreen ribbon cable into the connector until you release the hinge. To release the hinge use something small like a needle or a round toothpick. Insert the needle where the ribbon cable should go and gently flip the hinge up. Once the hinge is flipped, you can insert the ribbon cable into the connector and then flip the hinge down to lock the cable into the connector. Reassemble the GPS. Hope this helps you.

amm why not repair it your self ???

its simple really,

1.) take the unit out,
2.) unscrew the back of the unit to expose the headphone jack
3.) use a soldering Iron and solder the contacts back in place.. Normally Its just loose solder that causes the problem in the first place..
4.) you can also buy a female connector, Take the old one out and take it with you to get the propper size.. and solder the new one in place.. Its a simple fix and will save you time and money!!

Using the USB connector supplied connect the gps to computer.... the computer will see the USB Drive

Now go to MyGarmin.com register there and update and get your maps there, it will detect your model for you

With unit plug in to computer using the USB connector


Go to www.garmin.com and do a firmware update.

Check your Volume mute if ithas a checkmark in it remove it.....

Check the FM Transmitter if it is Enable with a checkmark remove it.

Check the Language make sure you have one that has ( TTS ) chosen those are the only ones with voice

You have Garmin Lock activated on your nuvi: there are only two ways you can unlock it.

1. Enter the PIN code (but you clearly don't have it or you wouldn't be reading this).

2. Take the unit to the Security Location you chose when activating Garmin Lock: it will then unlock without the PIN code and you can then either reset the PIN or disable Garmin Lock. The Security Location should not be the owner's home address, but many owners ignore this recommendation. Many owners choose their workplace or a close friend or relatives address for this purpose.

If neither option works then your unit is useless unless you send it to Garmin with proof of purchase. Garmin charge for the service and if your maps are not up to date then it's really a waste of money as the investment would be better spent on a new unit with current mapping.

I hope that you manage to either fix your problem using my advice or at least can decide whether to abandon the unit and buy another.

Can you connect it to your computer? Does it come up when you do? If so, and if it behaves normally then the issue is with the power cord/ 12 volt adapter cord you use in your car.
Replace the power cord.

may be incorrect chargers if not it is the USB port that is damaged. try using a different charger from garmin don't use a knock-off if you are
