My software update didn't work properly and it messed up my text messages.
I solved this problem by downloading the Motorola Software Update (MSU) from Motorola's website at hellomoto.com/support/update
1. Select your country/Region
2. Select carrier
3. Select Phone model
4. Click Orange arrow to the right of the model type
5. Select purchase month and year (If out of warranty select month and date within one year of today's date or it won't work) Then click Check Warranty Status
6. Follow "Click here" link to previous page
7. Select box right above Download Update link
8. Click Download update link
9. Follow directions for Download

From there you will have Motorola Software Update on your computer.
With your phone turned off, hold ^ # and the red power key at the same time until it prompts you to connect to your computer using USB cord.
Let the computer do it's thing and you're good to go!

what made is your phone?..did your phone is open line, so you can insert any sim card?...

what are you trying to use the data cable for? updates or loading music and pictures?
For updates you must go to the settings in your phone and where it says USB settings select data connection.
For loading music or pictures, in the same menu select memory card.
If you are trying to load the updates from motorola's website, sometimes it seems as though it is not connected, but as long as the phone icon shows it is connected. Just keep connecting and disconnecting the phone until it works properly... I had this problem when loading updates but I eventually got it to work.

the speaker inside may have got mis placed due to rough handling of the handset....
or else the speaker is out of order so get replaced the speaker...
just contact the near by technician if you cant do it by yourself ... he will not charge more than 200... actual speaker rate will be some where around 50 to 75 thats all... the extra is service charge as every technician will take ...

When you are actually in a call use the buttons on the side of the phone to increase the volume. It is usually the upper button, and can only be done when you are on a call.
