That lens is not an AFS type lens. The D40x camera only uses AFS compatible lenses. You could still mount and use it in M, but it will never give you autofocus or TTL flash.

Macro function

The difference will be that it should allow you to focus closer then normal. I own a macro lens with a switch like that, normally it focuses to 4.5 ft minimum. But if i'm zoomed up to 100mm, i can flick the switch to allow me to focus up to 3 ft away. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/erik_3934b541f17c4e99

Lens doesn't work but the

"F--" means the camera thinks there is either no lens attached or a non-cpu lens is attached. Looked on bottom of camera for a very small reset button. If one is there, turn camera on and press for about 2 seconds. With camera off, remove lens and with a slightly moistened pad, clean electrical contacts on bot lens and camera body. If neither works, see if a different lens does work. If a different lens works, then it is the original lens, if not, it is the camera.

Bought a Sigma DG 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 autofocus for

The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG will not autofocus with the D40 since the lens does not feature an internal focusing motor (HSM). The D40 does not have an AF motor in the body and hence it can autofocus only with lenses featuring an integrated motor (eg. Nikon AF-S lenses, Sigma HSM lenses, Tokina DX II series etc). Unfortunately you can use the said lens only in MF mode.

Sigma 70-300 lens will not move in auto mode.

It's almost certainly got a stripped drive gear. This is not a DIY repair, but if the rest of the lens is in excellent condition and not more than around five years old then it's probably cost effective to get it repaired. Sigma are normally excellent at supplying spare parts for their lenses.

Get an estimate for the work from a photographic repair specialist but be prepared for at least a four to six week turnaround time as that's what I'm currently finding for good repair outlets on both sides of the Atlantic.

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX while on Autofocus mode the focus ring moves slightly when half-pressing. Is this normal? is there anyway to fix this?

It is not normal for the focus ring to move slightly when using autofocus mode on the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX lens. This could be caused by a problem with the lens or with the camera body. One thing you can try is to check if the lens mount on the camera is clean and free from debris, as this can cause the lens to move when the camera's autofocus system is trying to adjust the focus. You should also check if your lens firmware is updated to the latest version and make sure your camera firmware is also up to date.

Hello All, I need instructions on how to dissasemble the Sigma 300-800mm f5.6 APO EX DG HSM lens to clean an inner element. Does anyone have a service manual/exploded views/parts diagram please?

You can't do this yourself. It needs to be carried out by professionals and is a 'clean room' with service techs in full dust proof protective wear. Send it to them. https://www.sigma-global.com/en/support/ ..

What adapter do I need for a Sigma AF 75-300 lens on a Canon Rebel XTi SLR?

Question edited for clarity. You get the Sigma lens for the camera in Canon fit. https://www.google.com/search?q=sigma+lens+af+75-300+for+canon+rebel+xti Can you use Sigma lenses on Canon cameras? Since Sigma lenses are made to be fully compatible with Canon cameras, they are backwards-compatible. This means that you can use a Sigma lens on a Canon DSLR camera. Where can I find out how to take apart a Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens?

Taking it apart is not the problem - re-assembling it will be. Unless you have access to an optical laboratory, where laser instruments can measure the exact tolerances required, don't even think about it. You will be left with a pile of optical components, and a far higher repair bill than if you had just let the experts sort out the problem in the first place.

Why does my sigma tiffen lens work on my rebel T5i & not on my rebel T2i camera says no connection to lens

Tiffen is a brand of filters not a lens. if your sigma lens will work on 1 camera and not on the other then check the lens mount, electronic contacts, clean them if needed. check the settings in the camera if there needs to be a change.

I have a 170-500 Sigma zoom lens and I need a scheme to understand how to mount it. It was disassembled by an unqualified technician and now he failed to mount it. Thanks.

Take it to a Qualified technician and get it fixed properly. I have this same lens for my Pentax K3, its a very good lens and worth getting it fixed by a proper tech who knows what they are doing.
