I have a MAUDIO FireWire

Daniel,

Since you've been using this unit for over a year without fault, I'm going to assume that you have the right Mic input selected, have the mic connection(s) firmly in their inputs and the gain set properly.
However sometimes accidents happen, so just double check those to make sure that they are indeed still set properly.

According to M-audio's manual for this unit it is NORMAL for the s/pdif's input and output to glow steadily (Even when not in use) and the input to become intermittent when IN use. So it is unlikely that the s/pdif is the culprit here.

Once we have determined that all of your NORMAL settings are still accurate we need to troubleshoot here.

Are there any changes you made to the system about the time that the problem started?
Reinstalled the OS? Installed or uninstalled Audio related Hardware/Software etc......?

Check in the Device manager(if you need direction on how to do so then comment back and I'll describe the procedure)
I'm not sure if this will be under Firewire adapters or under the Sound Game controllers so check each spot. Is there an exclamation mark in a yellow circle next to the devices entry? If so then you have a driver issue

Drivers can be found here. just select your unit and Windows XP SP1/SP2/SP3 depending on which one you have.

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver

You might try this even if there isn't a driver fault shown.
Right click the driver in device manager and select uninstall. Once this is uninstalled the system will likely ask you to reboot to FINISH the uninstall. Now download the appropriate driver for your unit. After the reboot install the new driver and check to see if it's working

If it Still is not working. Your likely fault is an electrical one. try using a different MIDI or Firewire cable (Depending on how you connect to your PC)

If thats not it TRY a different Mic on your Input

If that STILL is not it then the problem is likely IN the unit itself, Unless your comfortable dealing with high voltage electronics, I think this is where a service department should come into play.

Hopefully you find this helpful, and please don't let your bad experience on the CHATS affect how you feel about Fixya

Any questions you have regarding that may be directed to
[email protected]

Hope this helps you
Dave

M-Audio FireWire 410 External Distorted Playback...

Hello have you disabled all the built on sound cards on your computers? This is a known problem. If you are going to use a great product like M-audio disable any onboard audio card. Then try to use the 410 system. If you still have the problem try changing the latency to 4-5

Keeps blinking

It means its waiting for your computers operating system to recognize it. UNplug it. Update your operating system to the latest version ( free ), and then go to www.m-audio.com and download the latest drivers.

Do not ever install drivers for a device while its connected.
Plus it would help to know whatt kind of computer and what your operating systems is.

Keep me posted.

M-audio firewire 410 on macbook

Use a 'Y' splitter. Usually from balanced to unbalanced. Also try looking at your device's control panel and see if you can change the channel options from mono to stereo. Beta drivers are for testing purposes, so try the signed driver also.

Lots of noise when laptop power cord is plugged in

You must be running on pc, or it sounds like you may have a ground loop issue. If you are running a mac, then bus power over the firewire should be enough. If your running on a pc, try getting a pcmcia card with 6 pin firewire ports. If not then your pc laptop will have to power the 410 via ac adapter. That means both should be plugged in tot he wall. Ive gotten that interference before, and gett it on any audio, whether im producing or playing itunes. I find the trick is to reset the 410 via the output window in the top right. It's right above the level knob. Also, try just installing the latest driver, with the 410 disconnected, then launch it from a different file path than the icon.

I still use it for the macbook pro, and its not always top notch. I bought it 3 years ago for 500, and i see what 500 buys nowadays.......MOTU!!!!

Firewire410

You should install service pack 2, the go to the m-audio site and upgrade the drivers again. Also, since your computer most likely have a 4 pin firewire, make sure you have the power cqble for the 410 connected. Ofcourse, do not have the 410 connected when upgrade either sp2 or the drivers. make sure you power cycle both devices before reconnecting and attempting to record....

My M-audio FireWire 410 doesn't work

It sounds like you may be experiencing a configuration issue with your M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the connections: Make sure that the FireWire 410 is securely connected to your computer and that all cables are properly plugged in. If the connections are loose or faulty, it can cause problems with the audio output.
  2. Restart the device: Sometimes, restarting the audio interface can resolve issues with the audio output. To do this, disconnect the FireWire 410 from your computer, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect it.
  3. Update the drivers: It is possible that the drivers for your FireWire 410 may be out of date or incompatible with your operating system. To update the drivers, visit the M-Audio website and download the latest drivers for your device. Once the drivers are installed, restart your computer and try using the FireWire 410 again.
  4. Check the settings: Make sure that the FireWire 410 is selected as the default audio device in your operating system's audio settings. You can access these settings by going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Under the Playback and Recording tabs, select the FireWire 410 and click the Set Default button.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it is best to contact M-Audio support for further assistance. They should be able to provide you with specific guidance for troubleshooting the problem with your FireWire 410.
