Your are right, but this issue is there with not only philips the region issue is there with all the DVD Players, but there is a solution ......!!!!! you can resolve your issue.
You need to play only pirated dvd's on your dvd player, otherwise you can do one more thing using your computer with software you can change the region free for any movies to play on your dvd player...

You won't get voltage if you completely disconnect the lcp106830 power supply from the board. The connection to the front panel is required and is used as feedback. I just repaired one and found one of the power diodes faulty.

Go to the U-verse web site or to your account page for U-verse, find "program remote" and go from there.

solution to Both our problems is this, call Philips, "it just so happens that we have a rapid replacement program for this particular system"-"there seems to be an internal electrical problem", so I'm sending it back to them.......

I have a region Code For A Philips HTS-3544 which is 1 model Down. You can try it, it may work or it May Not.
Heres How:- power on the TV/DVD without any disk in the player.Press open/close eject.
Press Stop 7.3.4.4.6.6 ( on the Remote )
The menu code appears On The Screen.
Press 0 for region Free, or the region Code Required.
Power Off and then on Again, if the codes have worked, your dvd player is now region free.

This is due the the DVD issue, so please check the dvd audio support as well 5.1 channel enabled on your player to get the surround sound.
Please keep in mind that if the DVD supports 5.1 channel then only you can here the surround effect.

If it will play a CD but not a DVD then it could be the Laser is failing. If it won't play either then its more than likely that the Laser has failed.

First thing though is to try cleaning it with a Lens Cleaning DVD.

If after this it still won't recognized a DVD you need to remove the Main Cover followed by the DVD Tray cover. You can then clean the lens directly with some lens cleaner fluid and a QTip. Make sure you only use a little cleaner fluid and wipe off with a dry QTip. Do not touch the lens with your fingers.

After you've reassembled the unit if you still have the same fault then the Laser has failed and would require replacing, although this is not normally cost effective.

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble.This is a common problem on this set.Unfortunately, this is an internal problem and needs repair. You could try to unplug the system for few minutes, say 15 - 20 minutes and then turn it ON. If that doesn't resolve the problem,you need to send the unit for repair. If you have electronics repair experience and would like to repair the set, revert and i would be able to provide few more inputs.However, in most scenario's this is due to malfunction transistors. You need to replace it with housing assemblies, socket and resistor.

Hi, this is likely because of Bridge problem in power section in the player, thats why its not turn on. There is diode issue in the power section its called bridge rectifier, so please check with this. It can also be as a result of a burnt fuse that needs to be replaced....
