Amana ALW880WH Top Load Washer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Does not make a sound.
Have you checked the brushes on the motor to ensure they are connecting with the armature
No hot water supply
If you have the Hot Water open at the outlet and you know for certain water flows from the source to the washer; then a Valve is not opening into the washer. The valve is controlled by the washers circuit board. This solenoid is electrically activated upon command, and if that instruction gets to the valve it should open and close. Failure could be either the Valve or the Command Center.
Maytag washer will hum but not start
It may have tossed the drum off the rollers. To fix this, you need to take a look at the drum rotation assembly (the rollers that hold the tank you put your clothes in viewed from the outside after removing the back cover) that could be a combination of fan belts and rollers or just rollers that are engaged to spin or agitate the wash cycles. I had the same problem and had her back in line in about 30 minutes of taking the back off, figuring out why it wouldn't spin and setting it back on the caster rollers to function. It's pretty easy to see, good luck!
Amana washing machine (ALW880QAW). Does not work
probably the lid switch is faulty, remove screws behind control panel, then pull control panel toward you and lift up and lay back, now remove 2 screws in the lower front panel by the floor and remove the cover, then 2 more screws to remove upper front panel above the lower one, then 2 more screws in front hold the top on then raise top up like a car hood and the lid switch will be under the top cover
Amana ALW880QAW doesn't spin and agitation is slow
winephan,
I could be the pump slowly ceazing causing the belt to slip which would give a burning smell.
Motors in those units, are well build...have a service guy in but DON"t say anything about the motor.. because they will say it because you mentioned it
I sounds like you pump
I was not getting any cold water to my washing
Ok, generally, the issue will be between the valve, or the main control sector. You have replaced the valve, so the only component that can cause this will be the actual main control sector. The control sector can be a timer module, or a control board. I recommend to replace the control sector, asap. The price range for this type of control device will be around the $195.00 mark. Possibly less, depending on where you purchase the device,
My washer (ALW880QAW) agitates but does not spin.
That is the drive coupler and it has worn out. You can order a replacement set that comes with two plastic retaining pieces that slide onto both your transmission and engine and also a rubber piece that goes in between these two plastic pieces. You can search many places to find out how to replace this part. I just ordered a set and shopped around a bit and mine was $20 after shipping.
My top load ge machine does not spin. it fills
Sounds to me like the belt has either came off or has broken. You can remove the front lower panel to see if the belt is still intact. To remove, put a hand on each side of the panel toward the top. Pull toward you, the top of the panel will un-clip and pull out. Then just pick up on the panel and set aside. Now look for the belt. Pull on it and make sure it's tight. If not you will need to reinstall it of if broken, replace. Good luck.
Washing machine won't stop filling--is the WLC defective?
The 3 likeliest causes of your problem are:
- Bad pressure switch (water level control)-It may react to your straw but the range it finally kicks off is higher than the highest possible water level.
- Bad sensing line-The plastic tube may have a pinhole leak caused by abrasion while your suspension system was out of order or it may just leak out the air. Place a small screw operated hose clamp on the hose where it attaches to the pressure switch. Place a finger over one end of the plastic hose and blow in the other as you submerge the hose under water to check for leaks. Replace if necessary.
- Clogged reservoir at tub end of sensing line-clean out with thin blade screwdriver. Sometimes grease or undissolved detergent accumulates in this area and blocks the pressure from sending a proper signal.
One of the above three should resolve your problem. Obviously, replace the pressure switch as a last resort after checking steps 2 and 3.
Good Luck
Kenmore Elite washer will not stop filling
Dirt in your solenoids may be a problem. But other than that it could be bad solenoids in general. It could also very well be that the unit that senses the water level has a part broken. On the inside there is a tube that connects to the tub. When you add water it increases the pressure in the tube and signals the shutoff. Sometimes the connections on this tube go bad.. or the tube itself gets a hole.
Easy way to tell. Start the unit with the on/off switch. Wait a few seconds then turn it off again. If the water flow doesn't stop you're most likely looking at a solenoid problem. If the water flow stops when you turn the switch off then you're most likely looking at a problem with the water level sensor.
Water will not stop filling the washer
I just fixed this problem on my GE washer that overflowed earlier into my hallway and living room. The fix required removing the tube from its connection at the outer tub and cleaning out some residue that was preventing air from moving to the sensor at the top of the machine at the control panel. No tools were needed other than a large steak knife to undo the clips to remove the front panel of the machine and a small flat head screw driver that I used to clean out the plastic pressure hose.
The good news is that even if this had not worked and the sensor/switch needed to be replaced, the part is available for replacement at the local hardware superstore and a few online outlets for around thirty dollars. Replacement of the switch looks to be relatively simple by disconnecting the existing wiring housing and replacing with a new part.
There are several detailed diagrams available online by doing a search for your product/ model number.
Be sure to check the hose before replacing the pressure sensor/switch- this will save time and money.
Good luck!
