3Com NBX 3102 IP Phone Questions & Answers
How do i reset voicemail password on 3com 3120 phone?
On 5.0 and older software, Log into the NBX Phone system as administrator and click on "tab to it". Then click on the "security" tab under System Configuration. Click on "Reset User Password". Highlight the user you want to reset and then click "reset. The system will reset the password to the same as the extension number.
On 6.0 and later software, Log into the Phone system and go to "System Maintenance, Password Administration". Select "User Password" in the drop down menu and click "Go". Select the box on the left for the extension you want to reset and click on the "Reset Password" button at the top of the list. The system will reset the password to the same as the extension
Hope that helps!
PEOPLE CANNOT DIAL AN EXTENSION
The extension range needs to be allowed in the Auto Attendant. For example, if most all of your extensions are in the 100 series range and you are trying to get to a 200 series extension then you have to have the option in the Auto Attendant (under Menu tree) for button 2 that says "Reserved in Dial plan".
If the extension is in the correct range then you should check to be sure that the extension is Dial Plan, Tables, Internal 3 Digit extensions (click devices using for older software). Make sure that extension is in the list (on the left for older software).
Default gateway
Depending on the mode the phone is in, it may be only a layer 2 device - meaning it just broadcasts at layer 2 to find the NBX and once discovered, uses layer 2 for all communication.
Tips on how to fix rj45 connector problem
Replacing the Patch cord is the easiest thing to do. If it is crimped on to the cable coming out of the wall, you should put a jack on it. To replace the clear mod plug on the end, you need another Rj45 mod plug and a crimp tool. These can be purchased at Home Depot, Graybar, Fry's electronics, Radio Shack etc. The crimp tool can be a little expensive but if you are going to need to do any more in the future, you'll have what you need. If you decide to put a Cat5e or Cat6 jack on it, they too can be purchased at the places mentioned above. You would need a punch tool instead of a crimp tool. Some jacks are tool-less but that is not the norm.
Web page + 3102
You can't web to a 3102 phone, only the phone system. If you don't know what the IP address is on the phone system, you will have to get a serial cable (null modem cable) DB9 male to DB9 female and connect to the console 1 of the phone system. You will need a terminal emulator program and connect at 9600, 8, none and 1 for the settings. Type nbxIpConfig (case sensitive) and hit enter. The IP address will then be shown. If this is not what you were asking, please explain.

How to reset a 3com phone
You'd have to reboot the phone, and press the white dot 'Program'
button within 30 seconds of reboot, then use the arrows to scroll down
through the menus to Advanced settings, and find Eeprom reset to default, and choose that. *Note- This will reset all values of the phone. If it's Ethernet Only, it's
fine. If the phone is using a Static IP, it will also clear the IP
addressing on the phone* If you are talking about resetting the phone from a user profile perspective it is different. You can reset the voicemail password under the system maintinence, password administration and select user password in the drop down box. After the password has been reset (to the extension number) they can log in and change the recordings and password. You will also need to then go to the users tab and change the name.
What's the number for customer service for 3com
3Com was purchased by HP and has discontinued the NBX product line and support. They have also as of September 31, 2013 stopped selling licenses. Some resellers are still able to get them but I'm sure that will stop soon enough. The NBX tech support number I had was for tech support is now a prize hotline number.
3Com 3102 phone dial tone but won't dial out
As long as someone hasn't been poking around in the phone system, this is a phone company issue. I have seen this many times and it has always been a carrier issue. Typically with PRI's or integrated access analog lines.
I get the message:
3Com Model
Hello.
NCP stands for Network Call Processor. There is a problem with communication. Since your server is running, reset your router (disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect) that supports your IP phone.
Hope this helps.
In NBX 100 3COM phone
I know this is old but maybe it can help someone else.
The line cards are "hot swappable and don't always reset with a reboot (especially a Digital Line card) you should try to re-seat the Line card after the system has booted up. This is done by unscrewing the black knobs at each end and then sliding the card out about an inch. Wait about 10 seconds and plug it back in. It takes about 2 minutes for the card to boot and synch with the phone company. Try your call again. If it's still not working after about 5 minutes, check the card in the phone system and make sure the channels are idle. If they are, call the phone company.
Problem!
INternet (DSL) line is down
The problem would be more than just internet in order for the phones not to work. they just need to be plugged in to a switch on the network to be able to communicate with the phone system and the other phones. Probably a switch or the DSL router if it has a built in switch.
How do I change the time?
I'm pretty sure that's set at the server level so that all the phones are synced, not at the phone itself.
Can you hook a radio
Yes, there is a MOH (music on hold) port on the main call processor board. You would use a cable with a 3.5mm plug on it (like for an ipod) to plug it in to the phone system and whatever connector on the other side to plug into the headphones jack on the radio.
The sytem says its waiting for NCP and has the NCP
This means that the phone and the NCP (Network Call Processor) in the phone system aren't communicating with each other. Multiple problems can cause this. Things to check:
1. Network cable - Is it plugged in, and to the right port?
2. Phone died
3. Is there an available license? (3100 series phones)
4. Is there a network switch problem causing a loss of communication through whatever switch that the phone is plugged into.
I have a bad phone on an NBX100. How do I swap out
What software version are you running? Specifically 5.0.x and below or 6.0.x and above? Assuming you have plugged in the new phone and have discovered it on the system... If you know how to get to the users tab for either version, then select the users extn (example ext.100) and click modify(5.0) or on the extn number (6.0). Then scroll down in the section on the right where it says telephone list (5.0) or associated telephone (6.0) and select the newly added phone (example ext. 101). Once you select the new extn (101) and click ok or apply, you will have moved their user profile to the new phone. All of their recordings, passwords and voicemails will move with the profile.
No network problems
Assuming you are talking about remote phones, you need to program the NCP (call processor) IP into the phones manually or add option 187 to your DHCP scope. The phones are able to DHCP the just also need to know what the IP address of the phone system to connect to is. If the phones are on your local network then this is all unnecessary. They work at layer 2 locally and don't need to use an IP address or DHCP.
I want to block a number on 3com NBX100

When someone call 3Com NBX 3102 IP Phone we cannot hear
If the phones are only 6-8 months old you should be calling 3Com. those phones have a 1 year warranty and once you register them they will help you troubleshoot and replace them if needed. Can you provide more detail? Do you have any network issues while this is happening? Does speakerphone work but the handset doesn't?
