Its probably a lens failure, its quite common, try cleaning the lens, if all else fails, try turning the unit upside down and load the disc, sometime this for some reason - resets the lens if slighty out but its not fact, just something i heard

there may be 2 possibles 1, the pinch roller is not going down and staying in the fixed when during playback, easy way to check power down the unit, press play and see if it looks firm, it will push back, if working right if its loose, it may well have come off a little sping, and may well be an easy ish fix, by someone who know about cassette decks, 2, the speed adjustment has failed, there will be an internal speed control, which keeps the playback at a correct speed, if this has failed it may be fixable, but only by someone who can take it to bits and remove and solder a new one in, and they are very small and Sony items i have had have failed on speed control! too for me its a junker box good luck

Gets some rubbing alcohol and a some Q-Tips, clean all rollers, spindles, and playback record head, plus the erase head and allow several minutes to dry. If there is no improvement! the erase head is bad or the record section of the main head is faulty.

This error "disc error", "no disc present" or " can\'t read cd". This all error are related to lens problem. If the lens is dirty or if the lens is got cracked or if the lens is getting blocked then it can happen. The lens is very thin glass material. You can say the lens is the "eye" of the unit. If the eye is dirty then it will not see the object. The unit needs to be opened carefully and this lens has to be checked. If any dust is collected clean it. Using the cd lens cleaner helps, but if the dust is got stuck hard or if its any other internal part then the lens cleaner will not help. If the lens is got cracked then the lens assembly has to be replaced.

The boom box cd player lens is made up of thin glass and its very delicate. Many a times dust gets collected on the lens, so the lens stops reading the cd and it do not play. Some times there is no dirt on lens but it gets cracked, if by mistake any pressure is applied on the unit or up-side down cd is placed in the tray or internal short circuit has occurred. These are few possibilities of lens not working. But in most cases its dirty lens causing this problem. SO open the tray by pressing the eject button, then unplug the unit from main power outlet, by keeping the cd tray open. Then take air blower and blow air in the unit. Please remove, if there is any cd in the tray while blowing air. Just blow air for few minutes. Then take a dry tissue and clan the cd placing tray externally and then reconnect the power and see, if that is helping or not. If the problem is same as before, then disassemble the unit and clean the lens manually by hand using dry tissue paper and then see if its helping. But take care while cleaning the lens with dry tissue you doesn't apply too much pressure on lens or any other parts. Also before removing any screw to disassemble the unit. Take a marker with you ready. Just mark the position of parts and screws before removing. If you have a cell phone with web cam in it then take a photo of the internal parts before moving any parts. Disassembly is not very hard but reassembling is not easy. So this pictures and marks with help you for reassembly. ----------But if lens is cracked internally then the lens assembly has to be replaced. If motor wires are loose then you can easily get it re-soldered by soldering machine. You can get it replaced from local cd /dvd player repair center. Take the item to your local tv repair store, and I would suggest an estimate.

The CFD-S01 is designed for use with CD-R and CD-RW discs. With that in mind a few things come to mind. Are the CD-R discs you are using music or data discs? There is a difference and some CD players do not get along with data discs and won't play them well if at all. Also the burn rate used can have an effect - too fast and it won't play well. If a disc doesn't play at all it might not be finalized. A disc must be finalized on the recorder it was burned on before it is playable on any other machine.

hello im a tech at a sony svc center and should the laser be weak and not just dusty a repair would be impractical as our labor is 90$ before the part cost.. from the picture it looks like a top loader in which case you could manually clean the laser with a simple q-tip---gently in a circle clean the lens dry q-tip no liquid .. also does it fail with different discs? if only with one that disc might be scratched ,dirty etc..

The board that reads the discs is giong out, it is not readind the discs properly. Repairing it is sometimes more expensive than buying a new one.You did get alot of use out of it, right? You got your monies worth...

That is an electronic problem. Probably a just-about-to-break cable in the motor of the CD drive, that sometimes causes a short and turns off the unit, or sometimes makes it to comport erratically and produce the buzzy sound. If you have electronics knowledge, then you may open and check the wiring harnesses. If don't, take it to your local electronics repair.

Open up the top and try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, then the optics need to be replaced. These units use KSS-150 optics, I think. These are still available (or a substitute) for around $20 for the part.

that means that the uptake wheel is not turning. typically this is caused by a rubber band that is insde the transport mechanism that connects the motor to the wheel.

if you are comfortable taking the device apart, you will need to find the right band and just pop it on.
