happened suddenly. previously, albums sounded fine. Am wondering if this is due to belt problem on turntable or something else. It's a fairly old (but good quality) technics. Have used it for years, never had a problem till now.
Couldn't find the model in the list so I chose the first one - it's actually an SL-B200 Technics turntable.
Most common problem is the belt getting soft, especially if it has sat for a long time. It will get a weak spot where it sat on the drive pulley and every time the turntable goes around and hits that weak spot it will slow down a little making it sound like a warped album.
The belts are usually very easy to replace. Usually just lift off the turntable or there might be a small clip on the center pin, then it lifts off. Replacement belts can be ordered from several places, as shown in this search... http://www.google.com/search?&q=SL-B200+Technics+turntable+belt

I've had a Pioneer PL 200 for years and haven't used it for a long time. My son is now into LP's so he started using it. however it runs constantly, it doesn't turn off when the arm is placed in the cradle. I'd like to open it, inspect the inside and maybe spray some cleaner in there. I don't have the manual so I don't know how to open it. Can you guys help me open it and also provide suggestion for correcting the constant power on state. Thanks for any help I can get.
I just opened up my PL-200 this weekend. The speed adjustment potentiometer needs replacing, most likely due to carbon deposits. Unplug the unit and place it on a table. Remove the cover of the unit, the plate, cartridge, and anything you can, first.
You can open the unit up if you unscrew each of the "feet", pads, and remove them. Place the unit on some thick pads or towels to cushion it, so that the underside of the unit is facing up. Once you remove the 4 screws you should be able to free the backing from the front cover. You won't be able to get too far without disconnecting some of the cables inside. Once you have detached them, it'll be best to turn the unit around and work the front cover off at an angle, to clear the arm.
I doubt that cleaner will remedy your problem, though. It's sounding more like the control or possibly a physical wire/device that sets when the arm is no longer over the disc area.
Perhaps someone else can assist with specifics relating to your particular problem.
Good luck.

I could not submit this question with the correct "Product:" (Technics SL-B2) so put in Technics SL-1210 Turntable.
A neighbor just gave me their old Technics SL-B2 Frequency Generator Servo Automatic turntable which hadn't been used for years. After I attached it to my Sony receiver and plugged the electrical cord in I discovered there was no "ON" button. My neighbor said since it had been so long since they had used it he really couldn't remember how it started, but thought all you had to do was pick up the arm and move it towards the record. I tried that and nothing happened. They haven't been able to locate the manual, so it was probably thrown out. They never had any problems with it - it always worked fine. Do you have any suggestions or solutions. Thanks for your help. Elizabeth
hello
You need a belt.. Lift up the record support..(platter) Underneath you will see a metal post.. Belt goes around that and the bottom of the plate.(there is a rim) . If the belt is there, motor might be bad..

I have a problem with my turntable (Technics SL-23.) It has power, but out of the blue I moved the needle arm over a record and the turntable wasn't turning. I lifted the turntable up and saw that the belt had fallen off. I replaced it, but no luck in fixing the problem. Any ideas? I'm trying to find a service manual, but no luck so far. Thanks for your time. Ivy
Howdy Ivy:
An Adobe PDF format service manual for the Technics SL-23 turntable can be downloaded from
http://www.servicemanuals.net/
for about $16.
Good luck!

I have a Technics SL-J1 turntable and the drive belt has perished can anyone tel me the size / part number or where I can get a new one.
Regards
Cliff
Hello Cliff,
You will need 2 belts, if the turntable belt is gone the other is not far behind . One for the turntable size 23.6 inch by .188 and one for the tracking motor that is in the top cover part, is a 3.0 inch by .046 belt. best place to get them is at kenselectronics.com part numbers 1407-201 and AV-SBS3.0 if you have been checking around you will see other sizes, I have a SL-J1 and have used these and they work perfectly.

how to install shure m44-7 cartridge on technic sl 1200.ive aproblem with the wt.,as i feel the shure cartridge is lighter then other cartridges do ihave to install extra wt. with the cartridge
No, you should not need to install extra weights. Adjust the tomearm counterweight (on the back of the tonearm).
Install new cartridge.
Set tracking force dial to zero.
Adjust counter weight so tonearm floats vertically. This is the balance point.
Dial in tracking force, 1 to 3 grams.
If you cannot achieve balance point then you may have to add weight between the cartridge and the cartridge mount

How do I get to the internal fuse of A 1210Mk2 under platter or beneath the deck,
The Solution:
1. Firstly unplug the decks!!!
2. Remove the slipmatts and platter
3. Unscrew the circular plastic cover (Note: 5 screws holding it down)
4. Upon removing this circular plastic cover you will see a clear piece of plastic covering a circuit board, open it up. Now you will see a two fuses one clear and one stripey.
5. Remove the fuses (Gently poke it out with a pen/screwdriver or whatever) and examine it and see if either or both have infact blown.
6. Bring the suspect fuse/s to any electric/hardware/music type store (or search the net) and try to get a replacment but make sure its the same as the fuse you removed!!!. A T250 mA fuse(clear) an a T1A Fuse (stripey) are stated in the Technics user manual.
7. Now get the new fuse and gently snap it back in to the silver holders.
8. Replace the clear plastic circuit board cover.
9. Screw back the the circular plastic cover (Note: 5 screws holding it down)
10. Replace the Platter and slipmats
11. Turn them on and spin away

I have just recently had my 1210's serviced and was expecting the pitch faders to be replaced as I have been experiencing problems keeping my mixes tight without constantly having to keep re-adjusting the pitch control (all but very slightly) all the time.
My turntables were put on a calibration unit when being serviced and the serviceman found no problems with the pitch on either deck but upon return I have found that there is still this issue on both decks.
I have a Pioneer DJ mixer with a BPM readout, and when looking at this there is a slight fluctuation in speed on both decks, nothing massive but enough to support my initial theory, even when at 0.
You have to understand any sort of calibration meter will only tell you if the pitch control is faulty - or excessively too fast/too slow. If your units are just 'off' then that is a matter of a simple calibration of your pitch controls back to original factory specs. Also, just so you know, the pitch controls on the 1200s are not really calibrated when they leave the factory. They are basically installed, set a default setting, then shipped off. So, you'll often times have 2 turntables with sequential serial numbers, but they are both off.
Here is a tutorial on calibrating your unit back to original factory settings: TECHNICS SL1200MK2 / SL1210MK2 TURNTABLE PITCH CALIBRATION
You can also print this out and give it to the technician who serviced your units. Also ask him what kind of calibration meter, or unit did he use to test? Just curios.

One of my turntables only has sound coming out of the left speaker... its a sl-1210mk2
everything is plugged in...
one of your phono leads ether red or white is nakered.plug them in one at a time and see witch ones workin, then youll no the dodgy one.when you pull out leads from your mixer you can sometimes break cables free from the fittings if pulled by the wire.you wanna re soilder a new lead on to deck or pull back the sheath plastic covering the fitting and reconnect the cables(the insulated wire goes to the pin an the uninsulated goes to outside ring)gd luck

Technics 1210 MK2
I've bought this player second hand. Unfortunantly it doesn't always play straight. Sometimes the speed wobbles a bit, which is very annoying. The unstable speed can continue for half a record and then suddenly it runs correct again.
Anybody know what could be wrong? How to fix it?
Since this is a direct-drive turntable, it isn't a slipping or stretched belt. You will need a technician with a couple pieces of equipment and some experience/training to find the source of the problem. I suspect the part(s) will be the minor cost of the repair.
