If your left technics sounds good, maybe the problem is the cartridge. Try to interchange the cartridges, right table cartridge by the left one, and listen. If now the bad sound comes from the left table, it´s time to get a new cartridge or stylus. If the problem continues there is something else to look for. Hope this will help. Flavio/Brazil.
WHILST MIXING MUSIC ONE OF MY DECKS THE SPEED
Switches and other controls that permit the user to adjust the speed on the turntable often become erratic due to oxidation of the metal contacts contained therein. Dust and smoke add to the problem. Cleaning the controls with quality electronics-type contact cleaners usually gives years of happy service. The job is best left to someone familiar with the complete assembly since other finite adjustment potentiometers are often employed and located on the internal circuit board.
Short in tone arm
Unusual fault - I've never had a short inside the tonearm in all the years I've repairing decks.
A more likley problem would be a short (or an open circuit) in the phono cable.

Sound only coming from one side
Disconect the wires to the cartridge, with the amp powered up touch the wires with your finger (don't worry you won't get a shock) if you get a buzz on two of the wires (L&R) then the wiring is good. Therefore the cartridge is to blame. Also check the amp out too, by putting the left into the right etc. If it is the amp it will be a small IC that has failed. It will be on a board near the imput most likley.
Most turntables are accessed from the underside also.
