Are you speakers configured correctly? The receiver may have bass turned off, or lowered. I doubt it is your cartridge.

My 1210 was working fine

Your turntable may be plugged in to a "switched" power outlet on your receiver/amplifier. If it is, your amplifier needs to be on for your turntable to get power.

Hi, one of the audio

Hi, Replacing the rca plug at the end of the cable is just a matter of splicing the wires correctly. The wire is actually a 2 wire line, almost directly under the black outer casing will be the ground wire ( is actually going to be totally wrapped around the center wire ) this will be evident if you look at the cross section where you cut the cord. The replacement end can be purchased at the local Radio Shack, less than $3 probably for a pack of 2. When stripping the casing from the cord be carful not to cut away too much of ground wire sheath ( this may lead to difficulty in attaching new end ) it is almost inevitable to have a few strands of wire cut loose. The next step is to sort of " part " the outer sheathing, then kind of wrap both halves around the inner conductor as close to where you stripped outer sheathing away as possible. Next strip away the inner wires sheathing and you have the two ends to either solder, if you know how to, or tie through the holes of the replacement rca plugs leads. I hope this was of enough help and thank you for asking FixYa, Good luck-Prodzilla

Hi Steve.

UK is 240V, while French network is 220V, but that is not the problem. Devices will normally work with both voltages.
Check and eventually replace the built in fuse enclosed in the UK power cord plug. Check also that the adapter from UK to European plug is grounded (three prongs both sides). If the adapter ground is not connected, the turntable will not work properly.

Regards.

Ginko.

I wired my technics 1210 turntable up to my usual

First put your finger on the audio imputs for the deck in your amp. They should buzz with the amp switched on. If you can't get them to buzz, then the magnetic cartridge pre-amp in your amp has failed. If they do buzz. Take the wires to the cartridge off (make a note of where each one fits). Then with the amp powered up and deck plugged into it. Touch each wire one at a time with your finger. You should hear a buzz on two wires (one on the left one on the right) and nothing (much anyway) on the other two. If you don't hear any buzz there's something wrong with the connection cables to the amp. If you do hear the buzz, then the cartridge is dead.

Got sound coming out of the right side only,

First check the amp that it's connected to. Since the record deck needs a Magnetic cartridge pre-amp inside your amp, they can go wrong and not effect other devices connected to it. You can do this by just touching the left audio input with you finger, it should buzz.
If that's good then remove the wires to the cartridge. With the amp on, touch them one at a time with your finger. You should hear a buzz on on two of them left & right. If you hear a buzz on the left you know that it is the cartridge that has failed and not the lead.

Internal fuse

The Solution:
1. Firstly unplug the decks!!!
2. Remove the slipmatts and platter
3. Unscrew the circular plastic cover (Note: 5 screws holding it down)
4. Upon removing this circular plastic cover you will see a clear piece of plastic covering a circuit board, open it up. Now you will see a two fuses one clear and one stripey. 5. Remove the fuses (Gently poke it out with a pen/screwdriver or whatever) and examine it and see if either or both have infact blown.
6. Bring the suspect fuse/s to any electric/hardware/music type store (or search the net) and try to get a replacment but make sure its the same as the fuse you removed!!!. A T250 mA fuse(clear) an a T1A Fuse (stripey) are stated in the Technics user manual.
7. Now get the new fuse and gently snap it back in to the silver holders.
8. Replace the clear plastic circuit board cover.
9. Screw back the the circular plastic cover (Note: 5 screws holding it down)
10. Replace the Platter and slipmats
11. Turn them on and spin awaysmile.gif

I haven't been using my 1210 for quite some time

I don't know what you mean by "directing them to the mains". Can you simply plug them into a known good wall outlet? You are right that both not lighting up suggests the cause is outside of the turntables.

Check that your mixer/amp has a magnetic cartridge pre-amp. If it doesn't you will need to get one. If it has first remove the wires to the cartridge. If you touch them one at a time, with the amp/mixer on. You should hear a buzz on two of the wires (one left one right). If you do the cartridge has gone. If you don't the mixer or amp has gone.

Technics skipping

hi fletch83.

this could be the tone arm bearings too tight, damaged or in need of a little oil.

i had a similar problem on my 1210, it kept jumping all the time, ruining my mixes! it turned out it was the bearings too tight.

unscrew the counter weight so that the arm hovers over the platter and move it to the centre with anti-skate on zero.

slowly turn the anti-skate round to three and the arm should move over to the arm rest smoothly,if it stops before the arm rest or isnt smooth theres your problem, loosen the bearing adjuster slightly and try the hover routine again until its as smooth as you can get it. it is possible,if the turntable has been transported without dust covers the bearings or the pin could be slightly damaged from knocks on the top of the tone arm assembly.

let me know how you get on or if you need any more help.

darren

Technics deck has power but stopped rotating

If you're lucky, this can just be a dirty/corroded speed control. Try removing the platter and you should see 2 holes lower center of the indented section. In those holes should be the coarse speed controls. These really set the range of the fine speed controls we play with on the outside. Use a good commercial contact cleaner and spray these babys. Gently move them a bit counter clockwise and clockwise, spray again, then return to about where they started.
If that doesn't help, you either have a motor issue or the controller board has a problem - no easy fix there.
