Assuming you are using the proper serial channel reset procedure, this should not be occurring. If it is occurring, your unit is probably malfunctioning and cannot be corrected.

If you can connect to another, known-good EOC-3220 using the same serial cable and software setup, then your other EOC-3220 is probably just blown. It happens - I have several in a box in the workshop. :-(

If you really wish to use WEP encryption, you should enter your WEP key in the key1 field. However, WEP is weak and breakable in under four seconds. I would recommend using the WPA encryption instead, with a passphrase. The AES mode is strongest, but the TKIP mode is compatible with more and older machines.
The reason you are getting "default encryption type mismatch" is because the encryption type has to be set exactly the same on the AP side and on the bridge side in order for you to communicate. When it is not the same type, you get this error. If it is the same type and you just have the wrong password, the error will be different.

How do I get into

There is no reset button on this model. To forcibly regain control of the configuration, you need a USB to serial cable, possibly a null modem adapter (depending on the serial cable), and a serial communication program like HyperTerminal or ZTerm for the Mac.
The manufacturer has incomprehensibly removed the detailed reset instructions from their website, but they can be found here:
http://www.keenansystems.com/engenius__senao_wifi_faq.htm
Look for the section titled "How do I reset the EOC-3220 / EOC-3220 EXT / EOC-3220+ back to factory default settings? "

I have EnGenius EOC-3220 (EOC3220)

Depending on the serial cable you have, you may need a modem (crossover) adapter between the cable and the EOC-3220. A good diagnostic is the following: with the EOC-3220 unplugged from power, connect your serial cable and make all the proper baud rate etc. settings in your serial communications program. When it is running, plug the EOC-3220 into power. If you don't see any garbage characters appear on your screen when you plug the power in, your comm program is probably not set up properly. If you see garbage characters but they are not immediately followed by good information from the EOC-3220, then you either need a null modem adapter inline, or you have a dead EOC-3220. If you've never communicated successfully with an EOC-3220 before over the serial channel, the only way to know if you have a dead one is to try again with a known-good one.

Check your hyperterminal settings and make sure the communications settings are correct: baud rate 57600, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control. telnet terminal ID ANSIW. The full directions are here:
http://www.engeniustech.com/datacom/support/general-details.aspx?id=109
If this doesn't work, and it doesn't work from a different computer either, then I would suspect your USB/Serial cable or your radio unit itself.

My friend has a router

unless its own IP was changed but it should really stay at 192.168.1.1 even if its DHCP is enabled or not. try to assign statically an IP, ofcourse different from the above to the PC you are using. if it picks, then ping the above IP, if ok, then try to login to the router. otherwise, for reset purposes, an RS-232 null modem serial cable is required. this would reset all settings to factory including the default IP. how to do this, please follow these steps.
1. Connect the EOC-3220 to your computer with a null modem serial cable.

2. Start a HyperTerminal session: Click Start and then select Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> HyperTerminal.

3. After the HyperTerminal window appears:
a. Give this new connection a name. Ex: EOC-3220.
b. Select correct COM port. Ex:COM1.
c. Set baud rate as "38400", data bits "8", parity "none", stop bits "1", and flow control as "None". Then press “OK” to bring up the HyperTerminal window.
d. Unplug the power on the POE injector and wait 5 seconds then plug the power back in.

4. Wait until the "#" is displayed in the HyperTerminal window.

5. Type "flash reset", then hit enter.

6. Type "reboot", then hit enter. After the device reboots, all settings will be at factory default.

I recently upgraded my engenius

Hey,

It sounds like the firmware update failed and the unit has been bricked, it does not start up - or function at all, the firmware will need to be reloaded, but since it does not have a working firmware, it can't be done.

Note: Any failed firmware upgrade may result in permanent damage to your device and will automatically void the warranty. Never upgrade the device firmware via a wireless connection.

-- Certainly there is a way to restore - reprogram the firmware into the device.

but in this case, it is not possible over serial or network connection.

There may be a backup firmware that gets loaded when a firmware update fails, then you might be able to restore it, if you had inside information from EnGenius on how it is done, or there might not be anything, If there is such a solution, it is not common knowledge, the service techs at EnGenius will fix it for you. But hardly anyone outside of their facilities would know.

So, contact them directly, I think its very unlikely that you would find the assistance you require from FixYa in such a advanced problem.

The EOC-3220 has several settable signal strengths. If you have the signal strength turned up to maximum, but a PC relatively near the access point cannot detect the access point, then you may have a blown radio. Another thing to check is that you have left the SSID broadcast visible -- if you have made it invisible, it will look like the access point is not broadcasting.

If you have the radio configured as a bridge (not a bridge-router), you must ensure that your computer is in the same LAN IP subnet as the remote router. If the remote router supplies DHCP, this should happen automatically; if not, you must configure your computer manually.
Once there, you may have to manually define DNS servers on your computer in order to access machines on the internet by name. If you can browse to http://216.239.122.34, but not to http://google.com, your problem is solely lack of defined DNS servers. This is not an artifact of the Engenius units, but the remote server.
