Apple iBook G3 Clamshell (M2453B) Mac Notebook Questions & Answers
Applacations??
Are you just copying the apps to the new computer? If so it won't work. You need to install the apps from an install disk, unless of course you have the installers on the memory stick. If you need more info, please feel free to ask me. I'll gladly help you as I can. Peace.
Overheating ibook g3
Hard drives are rated with an expectation of roughly five years before serious failures occur. This model is at least 14 years old so it's not surprising that it's reporting missing files.
As I can install a samsung ML1640 printer on a G3 iBook?
you have to go to the printer manufacturer to get drivers for the computer. The os comes with drivers for different printers but if your printer was manufactured after the OS you are using wa made it will not be inherent to it.
One thing to do is to connect the printer to the computer and reinstall the os with the system disk. Sometimes this will fix it. Another way to do this is to run software update from the apple drop down menu to see if there are any updates to your current os. That machine should run mac os x 10.4 if you have enough ram in it. Ram for that machine is very cheap.
Osx 10.0.3 lost password
Try this...
Hold Apple+S when booting to enter single user mode
- #sh /etc/rc
- #passwd yourusername
- #reboot
If you can't recall your user name, you can either look in the /Users folder (the directories are named by user), or run "niutil -list . /users".
Also, on older systems the /etc/rc script isn't available, apparently. If that second step fails, try mounting and starting the base services manually:
- #/sbin/fsck -y
- #/sbin/mount -uw /
- #/sbin/SystemStarter
I've had to do this a couple of times for friends when they've bought a second hand machine, and once when I had a momentary brain lapse and forgot my own password. Works like a charm, though you'll loose any passwords stored in your keychain.
CANNOT CONNET MY IBOOK TO THE INTERNET
How are you trying to connect? Wireless or via wired connection? There's a control panel called NETWORK on in the systems preferences. If you go into that control panel it will show you the options that are available and what their status is. For example, I'm using the wireless on MacBook Pro and it shows a GREEN light next to the wireless connection. If you let us know how you are trying to connect to the internet, it'll help us solve your problem.
Apple Ibook G3 connect internet through Ethernet??
For Linzie:
To connect to Internet with cable:
1. Turn on your computer.
2. From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences, and select the Network icon. Click on the Built-in Ethernet connection, and then click Configure.
3. The Show drop-down menu should be set to Built-in Ethernet.
4. Click on the TCP/IP tab.
- The Configure: pop-up menu should be set to Using DHCP
- The DHCP Client ID should be left blank
- Search Domains should be left blank
- DNS Servers should be left blank
- All other fields will be filled in automatically by the DHCP Server. Click Apply Now when you are done.
-
You should note the Ethernet Address for future reference. To do so, click on the Ethernet tab, and then write down the Ethernet ID. You may need this if it is not filled in automatically when you register your computer.
-
Close the Network preference pane.
-
You should be able to get online with Safari.
