You can log into your router to obtain the WEP key. Usually if you type 192.168.1.1 into your web browser it will take you to the log in screen for your linksys router. The username will be: admin and the password: admin as long as it was not changed. If that username and password does not work then you will need to reset the router by pressing the reset button on the back of it for 10 seconds and then that username and password should work.

Sometimes the wireless internet just
This can be due to various problems. Lets try to figure out what is it exactly. First off all see the signal strength at the time that the laptop can not connect. If the signal is just 0-1 lines you may have disconnections. Another point of view is the number of the wireless networks at the area; if there are plenty there might be an interference between yous and one of the others. Try to locate at the router's settings page / wireless connection / channel & ssid and change the channel from auto to manual and try at any of the 13 available channels. Your laptop will locate the new channel automatically.

If you unplugged your modem then you will have to set it back up which includes putting in your current IP address. The steps are in your user manual and you will need the following information to set it up. If you know the web address for your router you can get the info from that, if not then you will have to contact RCN again. You will need the IP Address, the Gateway address, both primary and secondary, also the subnet mask. But all of that should be explained in the user manual. I would suggest reading it first, writing down the numbers needed and then set it up.

I have a Linsys and my labtop says it recognizes
you have to allow the device to be added to the router table in the rotuer wireless list for the device to access the inter net wirelessly
here are the steps to accomplish this :
1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. copy and paste this link into the URL and save to favorites or bookmarks / follow the instruction set.
http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&login=1&app=search&vw=1&articleid=20600&donelr=1
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Remote Access
IF you are getting public ip from your isp, please go to administrator tab of the router and first change the router's password which is on the top on same page in black dots,,type your new password by deleting old one and re-confirm it just below and save it..router will prompt for the new password just to let you know settings are saved now enable remote managment option on the same page and port is 8080(default, you can use your own port number) and save setting..now you are ready to access your router remotely for that note down the public ip you are getting on your router's status page and in remote location you need to type something like :- http://x.x.x.x:8080...x.x.x.x is your internet ip (public) and 8080 is port number for remote management.
For host applications need to know which application you are running according to that need to open port in the router using Port Forwarding feature of the router.
