Hey ajn1n1 we need to fine where the tinnyness is coming from Lets do a test shall we,

hook up your voice matched polks to your front left and right speaker outputs on your amp to see how they sound as mains. if you hear tinny then its the speakers. sometimes speaker need to be broken in a bit.

hook up your main front left and right speakers to your rear outputs. if you hear the tinnyness then its the output of that channel on the amp or a setting. Newer amps let you change speaker sizes in the menu so that it can change over the crossover for that channel.

Denon avr-587 shows h/p only in display,no audio

The problem usually is very simple - bad connection in head phone connector located on the front of the unit.
You need to find any headphones with 1/4 jack and plug it into receiver several times. It clean internal contacts in the connector and your receiver will work again. Good idea to use contact cleaner during the process. Thanks.

I have a Denon AVR-587

Hi,
I assume that the sub-woofer is "POWERED TYPE" ..otherwise if it is a PASSIVE type you can not use it as sub but regular speaker.....
So,if it has a power plug for 110 VAC it is "powered type" ..Than you need to find out the AUDIO output 2xRCA plugs on the back and connect it to the 1x RCA input of Sub...you need a "Y type RCA cable " to make 2x stereo output into the 1x MONO input RCA jacks for sub..you need volume adjustment once on the sub controls (if it is a Powered )

Take care and if it succeeds please Remember to rate/vote and give me 4 Thumbs Up
for Helping out the Community :)

Hope this helps!

My remote will not raise or lower the volume I

Quickest way to tell if the remotes buttons are (worn out) broken. If you have a digital camers or cell phone with a LCD display, put the remote in front of the camera and press the buttons. If the buttons are functional you will see the flashing red lights in the camera window. Hope this helps. If you need a new remote, check EBAY, there always there.

For zone 2 you need separate zone2 remote control or there should be a zone2 switch on main remote control.

I have a Denon AVR-587. It has worked fine for

There is a short either on the speaker wires to the speakers or the speakers are defective (some sort of a short or too low of resistance). Lastly, check to see if a stray strand of wire is not touch the left and right terminals. Any short in the network (wire, lack of insulation, staple, screw, etc. ) will cause the system to clip.

No output to the subwoofer

I'm assuming your subwoofer is self-amplified, otherwise it won't work with a preamp (rca) input.

Under Speaker Setup you have to have Subwoofer set to YES (page 16).

If you have good bass-capable main speakers I would recommend setting the subwoofer playback mode to LFE+Main, otherwise just LFE.

Beyond this we would need to know something more about the subwoofer and its controls.

Connect any other preamp out channel, like CDR/Tape OUT, to the sub and tune an FM station to see if the sub is capable of processing audio. A 'normal' audio signal would sound muffled but it would prove the cabling, amp and speaker at least function and point us back to setup as the culprit.

Make sure that the volume is not muted or too low on the TV...the TV volume output to your receiver will be performing the function of a pre-amp to your receiver. Then select the appropriate input on the receiver that you have the TV audio connected to.

Are you intending to hear the TV as a source?

Does it relate to your problem? How about some details?

Better yet... what does work? FM?

Are the speakers enabled? Input Mode correct?

If you run through ALL of the setup routines do you eventually get sound?

We already know it's going to be a setting that's wrong so let's follow the recommendations in the Troubleshooting Section of the manual and make sure the input is set appropriately, the volume is up and there is a digital input present if that is what's selected?
