Denon AVR-687 Questions & Answers
No sound from my ja 687 amp lights show receiver is working
Need to check on the power supply to the output drivers, if there is no response on the speakers it is possible that the output replay is under protection. You need to remove power plug and leave aside for an hour before the amplifier is plugged back. If all functions show on display but there is no sound check the PREAMP output- audio out. If there is audio then the fault is with a non switching of the power amp or a power amp protection. Since these are mounted boards with little access to testing you need to be skilled to go further to probe and proceed. Also Denon might refuse to service if the amp is tampered which also can be expensive.

I have a element flat
Well, you didn't offer a whole lote of info, so I imagine that is why responses have been slow. It isn't clear at all to me what the symptom is, but perhaps it is a PiP issue, either hardware based, or a setting accessed through menus. What is the video source? For example a Dish Network HDDVR will most likely have a pip function, which splits the screen. Not knowing what is being split, or how it is very difficult to say.

I have a Harmon Kardon
Connect the Subwoofer Trigger Output for each subwoofer to thecorresponding trigger input on its amplifier. This enables the subwoofer toturn on or off together with the HK 3490. To further conserve energy, when the trigger connection is made, turn the Subwoofer Link Switch onto turn the subwoofer off when the corresponding pair of main speakersare not being used, such as during muting, when headphones are beingused, or when the main speakers are turned off using the Speaker 1/2 switch

How i conecct my receiver
First find out if your Dish HD box has an optical or coaxial digital audio out.
Connect this digital out to to the Denon's optical or coaxial input. On the back of the receiver the digital inputs are labeled as DVD or CD/CBL . Remember to select the front input selector of the Receiver according to what ever input you have connected your HD box.
On all TV channels your 5.1 speakers may not work. You can make them work by choosing some of the DSP functions on the Denon remote. Just press the surround button and select Dolby Pro Logic II movies / music. This will convert 2 channel audio to 5.1.

My receiver turns on for
Hi,
your receiver is having a power problem. One or more component(s) on the power board of your receiver is defective, that's why its turning off.
This problem may have occurred as a result of power surge or excess power entering into the unit or irregular power supply.
If you know about electronic repairs, get a meter, use a screwdriver to open the receiver so that you can gain access to the power board. Use the meter to read the power board and replace any bad component detected.
Once this is done, your receiver will stay on and function normally again.
Good luck.

NO sound
the finals are burnt out.
the output transistor are blown out because they have probably been locked up in a cabinet and have not received enough air.
or if it is fairly new check your speaker connections

How can I hook up
Hi,
If your turntable has inbuilt phono amplifier then hook it in any free Audio input of AVR687, select that input from remote or front of AVR687 to get sound.
And if turntable does not have inbuilt phono amplifier section then it can only be hooked in Phono Input of any receiver/ amplifier.
Please check AVR687 rear for PHONO INPUT, plug turntable RCA wires there to get sound.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.
I have a Denon AVR-687 that has been working great
It sounds like the headphone connection migh be grounding out causing the reciever to think the headphones are connected when they are not and cutting off the main speakers. How does the headphone connection feel when plugged in? Is it loose or does it feel solid? The internal connector contacts might be sticking. You could try cleaning the inside of the headphone connection out with a q-tip and rubbing alchohol and see if that helps. Inspect the inside of the connector with a flashlight and see if it looks worn. If it is you might need to dis-assemble the reciever and install a new heaphone jack input. This might require the use of a solder gun. Let me know if you have any other questions.

No sound from any source from speakers
check your connections again and ensure you have the audio going out. With many tv's you need to change a setting in the menu, double check that as well.

Size of fuse for Denon dra 697
The Denon DRA-697CI stereo receiver typically uses a 250V, 2.5A fuse. However, it's always a good idea to consult the user manual or check the label near the power input on the device itself to confirm the exact fuse size and specifications for your particular model. Using the correct fuse size is important for safety and to prevent damage to the receiver. If you're unsure, you can also contact Denon customer support for assistance.
