Hi there.

This problem is very often due to the TV dropping the audio signal from an external device or a software crash in the external device whereby it stops sending audio to the TV. An external device would be a cable/satellite receiver, digital converter or similar.

If you are using one of these external devices, please switch off the TV and any external receiving device, unplug them both from the electrical supply, wait a few minutes and try again. While this is not exactly a technical solution, it's often all that is required to solve the problem. When the power is re-connected, the software/firmware in the devices "re-boots" in much the same way as when you restart your PC.

If you have already done this, or it does not solve your problem, please try the following, then reply to me from within this page with the results.

1. Connect a set of headphones or PC speaker to the headphone socket on the front of the TV and check whether you have audio in the headphones.
2. Try playing from another external device, e.g. a DVD player or VCR - if you have one.

If/when replying, please also include details of any external receiving device you are using and the type of connection you are using to connect this to the TV. It's possible there is a fault with your TV or it may be necessary to restore the TV to factory default settings, but please do all of the simple things above first as this will help to determine the cause of the "fault".

Check with JVC as at least on one of these sets had these issues: wrong color, any color missing, picture upside down or backwards lettering etc and this one required the use of the computer with a jig from JVC to download to the unit itself two files.It sounds like a firmware/software issue and if so JVC should have it on record.I remember as we were authorized and were at first informed they would charge us three hundred for even using the jig---our owner simply said fine, we will tell the customer we will have nothing to do with this repair(nearest other service center was 150 miles, they had to give us the unit for free or end up replacing the set. My point is they are not the easiest people to deal with unless you have the upper hand with them.

Reseat the lamp again, and make sure that the lamp door is completly closed and screwed shut. There are safety switches that keep the set from turning on if all is not secure. If this does not help, you either bought a defective lamp, or your ballast is the problem.

The HD-ila sets accumulate a lot of dust in the light engine. The worst offender is the little fold mirror just under the lens. I take my set apart about every 8 months or so to clean all the dust from the light tunnel and all lenses, mirrors, diffusers etc. The picture really regains it's pop when this is done. Unless you are a skilled technician though, I would recommend against attemptimg this procedure as you need to disconnect the individual color lcds. Check with a local service center to get it properly cleaned.

Not likely since all JVC manuals are online and only to authorized service centers, try to Google and good luck.

The set does use a lamp for a light source and average life is 2 years or 2000 hours---many lamps before they actually fail get to be darker.

check the supply voltage if it is working in the ballast board, if this is a new lamp you must need to reset the lamp hour.
