Hi there, Just a thought for you....If you to ask the e-bay seller a question like " How easy is it to clean?" "Can you e-mail me instructions, my wifes concerned?" You may just get what you ask without paying a penny.

I had the same problem but discovered that it is just tightly stuck together. Pull straight up on the strainer, it is difficult but it will pop up. The base piece will follow.

General instructions: clean the basket-filter-screening of your Singer Juice Giant Model 774: First, unplug the juicer from the power source and disassemble it. Remove the pulp container and the juice jug. Locate the basket-filter-screening and gently twist it counterclockwise to remove it from the juicer. Rinse the basket-filter-screening under running water to remove any pulp or debris. Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away any remaining residue. Rinse the basket-filter-screening again and dry it with a clean towel. Reassemble the juicer. If you need more detailed instructions, you can refer to the manual for your product

Question edited from Australian/NZ 'Megimix', to British 'Magimix', the proper maker name. :>) Plus added '(what it is)'. There is a spring operated probe that goes into the base and is part of the safety interlock. Yours is stuck. Funny, I answered this question yesterday. Remove the lid and spray in some WD40 into the hollow exterior channel part of the bowl. Then operate the spring with a cocktail stick or similar. The spring isn't rising to release the bowl from the base.
