While working on a paper my macbook froze, so i forced a shut down. then after waiting a while i restarted it, only to get a grey screen with a flashing file icon with a ? inside of it. what should i do?
We'll that happened to me also.. i researched and found if you goto apple.com and look up support for macbook. Look for .pdf macbook repair manuel. There you'll get start up procedures. turn off power. Then load start disk, hold down "alt/opt" button and then turn power on. Wait for a min or two and then you'll see your hard drive and start disk to choose from. Choose start disk and click enter. Be sure your disk isn't scratched.. i had that problem. Then wait... it takes awhile so be patient. You'll get the whole set up again. DONT ERASE YOUR PRIOR DISK!!! Thats where i screwed up! So.... you should be able to get what you want .. if not.. its a new hard drive you'll need to buy... i'm heading to Best Buy and the Geek Squad for my help!
good luck!

why is my built-in webcam not working when im using my skype?
I had this problem, too - but I'm not sure how I fixed it:-)
Try these:
1. Check Skype options: Skype :: Preferences :: Video
Did you activate Skype video?
Can you select the iSight camera?
After yes for the above: Do you see yourself concentrating?
If not:- Try restting the pram http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379.
- check for skype updates
- I remember some stuff regarding iSight problems, try searching for the following terms:
macbook isight skype
Hope some of these might help

I plugged a headphone in my Mac but when I unplugged it, the sound stopped and a red light shine from the jack. What should I do?
I took a safety pin and put it in the notch inside the headphone jack input. notch is located at 12 o'clock about 1/8th inch in, (this is an important step, other steps are no good until red light is off) the red light went off (Be patient this step may take time) still no sound, I then went to Audio MIDI setup (Should be located in Applications/Utilities), go to Audio in menu bar (at very top of computer screen) and selected 'open Aggregate Device Editor,' clicked on the + to add a device I then had a few options show up in the lower [Structure] portion I clicked on all the 'Use' boxes and the built-in output bubble selected done. I then Selected Configure Speakers in Audio MIDI setup and I can test my left and right speakers individually, they put out a fuzzy test sound, pressed done when finished. They still didn't work so I set Default out put to the Aggregate Device I created, then turned on Itunes and it was working fine I just could not control the volume from the F3, F4, & F5 buttons so I went to sound in system preferences and made sure the built-in Output option was selected. I was then able to control the volume. The red light in headphone jack input may come back on if anything is inserted inside, just mess around with the notches inside till it goes off. Hope it works as well as it did for me. Good luck and please feel free to quote me and share this solution with others.

how to access bios on Intel MacBook
Holding alt or option while booting up can allow you to access the drive you want to boot to if it isn't set as your startup drive. Everything else can be managed from system prefs.

Just downloaded Mac SKYPE. Do I need headphones? However, that didn't help.
Hi there,
It sounds like you're asking whether headphones are necessary to the Skype experience.
You don't absolutely *need* headphones (or a microphone or a headset that has both), but if you don't use headphones, then your Mac external microphone might pick up the sound of your conversation and you might get unpleasant levels of feedback.
If this doesn't answer your question, please write back with the following information:
1. Your Skype version (click Skype --> About Skype)
2. Your model of Mac
3. Whether you are having problems with your audio
- On Skype only?
- On other applications?
- In general?
4. Whether you have tried clicking on "Skype Test Call"
- Whether you could hear the voice giving you instructions
Thanks!

How do i turn off the dos mode on my mac
The quickest way to get out of DOS is to hold down the power key until the computer shuts off. Then during restart, hold down the option key until the drives icons appear on screen. Use the arrow keys to select your OS for start up and away you go..

My Mac is not recognising any dvds and just ejects them. I have tried heaps, all legal. I don't know enough about how to use my mac to go troubleshooting on my own.
Because this could go in the way of a hardware issue or be an issue with the types of DVDs you are using (even legal and commercial copies), so I have three procedures below, I would suggest you try, in order to resolve your Macbook issue with auto-ejecting DVDs.
Procedure #1
-PRAM RESET-
The Parameter RAM Reset is a good troubleshooting process for working with various functions including refresh rate, screen resolutions, and DVD region issues to name a few.
Steps:
• First, shut your Macbook down properly
• Once your Mac is shutdown, locate the following keys on the keyboard:
Command, Option, P, and R.
You will need to hold those keys down simultaneously .
• Now turn on the Macbook.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys.
• You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the start up sound for the third time.
• Release the keys and allow the Macbook to start up.
Run the next procedure (below) from within your Mac OS X Desktop.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
font.f1 {font: 13.0px Myriad Pro}
Procedure # 2
-RUN DISK UTILITY -
Go to Finder Menu bar
• Click Go > Utilities > Disk Utility and open up Disk Utility app.
• Click on Macintosh HD volume (or on the name you have changed this volume to.)
• Select "Repair Disk Permissions"
**Let Disk Utility run this repair permissions until completion
Once Disk Utility is complete and there are no errors in red in the completion summary, quit Disk Utility.
Proceed to the last procedure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Procedure #3:
Check this Apple support page for Macbooks and make sure your Macbook is update on its firmware and SMC updates:
Apple Macbook Support page
------------------------------------------------------------------
•Now try a few types of DVDs, commercial, burned and blank DVDs and if you have different brands of blank DVDs make sure to try them as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apple has done it best, by providing a great support page, that I would
like to provide you as a final troubleshooting support option:
Apple Support Link:
Troubleshooting the slot load optical disc drive
You have your work cut out for you, but not to worry, follow these procedures listed in this post and in the links I have provided and you will have an answer as to if the issue with the DVDs auto-eject from your Macbook, is a hardware, software or DVD disc issue.
Regards,
-Mactechtrainer
