By screen size I'm going to guess what your asking is how to change the resolution of the screen so that the graphics of the icons and what not are larger or smaller, since you have a laptop you are not actually able to change the size of the display itself, and with a macbook that's a older model you might be able to do a dual display setup, but if you're simply mirroring the built-in display then you are really going to bog down you're processor and VGA's performance. To change the resolution just go to "system preferences->displays". Now look for the option that says "resolution", there should be choice two options, one that says "best for display" and one that say "scaled". You're going to want to make sure that the option "scaled" has been selected, if it wasn't previously then when you select it a small menu box will now appear with different resolution matrices.
