The device is freezing

Try formatting the memory (in the Menu, there is a 'Format' option).

*note - this will delete any dictation that is on the portable!

As soon as I turn

As per one of my other posts:

Press the 'OK' button, then it'll prompt you to 'Save All Data To PC'. If you have dictation on the portable that you want to save, connect it to the PC and hit 'OK'. It'll go into 'PC Operation Mode' and you can transfer your dictation like you normally would. Then when you disconnect and reboot the portable, you should get the error again.

To clear the error, press 'OK' again, but on the 'Save All Data To PC' screen, instead of pressing 'OK', press 'Esc' (I think that's the other option - this is from memory!) and it'll prompt you to delete the data. Press 'OK' and it'll format the memory and reboot - then you should be good to go.

The 2003,1001 error is caused by shutting off or cutting power to the portable while it's still in the Record mode. The portable is writing to the memory, and if you cut the power, it doesn't have a chance to finish saving the dictation - resulting in a corrupted file.

Which transfer program for dictaphone m5220 works

You can use either Walkabout Transfer or Walkabout Write found here:

https://isupport.nuance.com/OA_HTML/csksxvm.jsp?nSetNumber=13097

Also, if you connect the portable via USB to your PC, it'll connect just like a USB memory stick and you can use Windows Explorer to transfer your dictation from the 'DSS' folder.

My dictaphone 1243 wont record sound

I'm sorry to hear that your Dictaphone 1243 is experiencing difficulties with recording sound. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue: 1. Check the microphone: Ensure that the microphone is not obstructed or damaged. Clean any debris or dust that may be affecting its functionality. 2. Volume settings: Verify that the volume is not set too low or muted. Adjust the volume settings accordingly. 3. Batteries: If your Dictaphone 1243 operates on batteries, make sure they are charged or replace them with fresh batteries. Insufficient power can affect the device's performance. 4. Recording mode: Confirm that you have selected the correct recording mode. Some devices have different recording options, such as voice activation or manual recording. Ensure you have chosen the appropriate mode for your needs. 5. Storage space: Check if there is sufficient storage space available on your device. If the memory is full, it may prevent further recordings. Delete unnecessary files or transfer them to another storage device to free up space. 6. Reset or firmware update: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may consider performing a reset on your Dictaphone 1243. Consult the device's manual or contact the manufacturer's support for instructions on how to reset the device. Additionally, you could check if there are any firmware updates available for your device and apply them if necessary. If none of these steps help to resolve the problem, it might be best to reach out to the manufacturer's support team or consider taking the device to a professional technician for further assistance.

I want to voice record text books in a format for my son to listen to - he has dislexia. What should I buy?

There are several Freeware Text-to-Speech and some very expensive Text-to-Speech available on the internet, but to the best of my knowledge there is nothing available at any price that will do a proper job --the easy way. This is why all "books on tape" or CD or whatever else, are performed by real people. Check in your local library. :-) If you really want to voice record text books for your son to listen to, you are the only one who can do it. It is a labor of love. Or you can hire a student radio announcer. At your local second hand stores you'll be able to get yourself a decent cassette tape recorder/player and a decent plug-in external microphone, with an ON-OFF switch. That should be an investment of not more than $20.00 to $30.00 The 60 minute cassette tapes are the more durable ones, and can be had for about $1.00 each. Much information is available on the Internet about how to record your voice on tape. For converting your tapes to MP3, my choice is a freeware named Audacity. The benefit of this software is that not only it has professional features, but it has excellent on-line manuals and step-by-step instructions. After that, it is only a question of trial-and-error until you are happy with the final outcome. It is time and effort well invested. Cheers

Dictaphone foot pedal

It would be easier/cheaper to buy another foot pedal.
The older style had "leaf" switches in them and they are adjustable from below the foot control. There are 2 screws underneath each switch. Loosen up the one closer to the front of the pedal (just a little) and tighten the one in the back the same amount. This will raise the angle of the switch to make it more sensitive (lighter pressure to activate).

Dictaphone Model: 7120...Power Supply Part#:

Hello there,
At times companies that produce devices like this tend not to put the manual online and efforts to try to get it through some other users upload might be difficult as well. The solution is for you to simply just disassemble the device and try to locate the fried regulator.
That way, you will be able to solve the problem, The moment you disassemble the device, you will be able to detect where the problem is from and know how to solve the problem from there.
Most times, the service manual just do not give prescription and direction on how to repair problems like this as the kind of solution the proffer there are basically common problem that requires just pressing just one button or the other on the device.
Try to disassemble it, that way you will be able to diagnose, detect and fix the problem as the case may apply. But if you do not want to disassemble it, you can get it to a repairman to have it checked and fixed for you in order to save you the expense of a guess work.
Hope this information was helpful to you. Goodluck. Elect_Comp
