Auto muting on when on am/fm
That's normal.
The Auto Muting mode mutes the audio output of the tuner if the station is not sufficciently strong to be accurately tuned. Otherwise you would hear all that interstation hash noise.
Press the FM Mode button to change it to Mono if you want to manually tune a hard-to-reach station. It will be in Mono.

AUTO MUTING Normally select this.
When a program is broadcast in stereo, you will hear stereo sound; when in monaural, you will hear monaural sound.
This mode is also useful to suppress static noise between stations. The AUTO MUTING indicator lights up on the display.
REceiver states
The unit is overheating so it turns on the thermal protection.
If the unit lacks proper ventilation, it will overheat and turn on the thermal protection (e.g. there are several other units stacked on the top of the receiver and they are all enclosed in a tight shelf).
The problem may also be:
- a bad solder joint on any of the components, especially the ones that tend to produce heat
- damage to any of the components
- bad / oxydized connection contacts somewhere inside the unit.

I have a JVC RX-501 reciver and 2 speakers Sony(200W). I start the reciver and After 3-4 seconds it S make a sound like" bun bun " that S all... After 1-2 minute again..

1997 JVC RC-X270 does not read CDs
A bit of basic knowledge is required first;
Insert CD, the first thing the processor expects is to scheive Focus.
When Focus is acheived, the Spindle Motor will turn.
Either the Laser cannot Focus or there is an issues with the Spindle Motor.
Which is it ... if you know, then you will know which part or board has the issue.
