Go down to Walmart and get CD Cleaning Disc. They have little brushes that clean the optics. Or it is a counterfeit copied disc and has become corrupt! Try the discs on another unit.

The direction is changed when the motor driving the tape spool senses resistance such as when the tape reaches the end! If the tape you are testing it with is ok then it could be the motor needs cleaning or replacing!

Hi Robert, probably the cd tray belt (a tiny black rubber belt that connect the tray rack with motor gear) is broken, check this by opening the player, if torn you need to buy a new spare and replace it.
