There is a ground ,usually on any electrical outlet, on the wall plug, or just use the box mounted on the wall where you have the receptable.

The speed is set by a synchronous motor that drives the turn table. There may be a small adjustable resistor (pot) that will do the trick.

Hi, Try to put one or two drops of oil in the shaft of the motor. be sure when you put the oil it should not spread on the pull where you put the belt. You will be able to see the shaft of the motor beneath the belt pulley. And also put one or two drops of oil in the center shaft one which the plater rotates. Probably this will rectify the problem of your turntable.

And when you tell us what it is doing and not doing we can consider a solution.

There are two possibilities. here (both in case it power on but no spin )..One ..there is no noise at all ..and in this case the motor is burned out ..and you will need a replacement ..and the second case..there is a noise from the motor ..but the platter will not spin ..and in this case you need a replacement for the belt ..cause the drive is belt based..
If you do not have power at all ..than you might need to check the fuses..There has to be located somewhere near the access point of the power cable ..and usually are labeled..and look like a plastic screw lid ..which once removed..will expose the fuse..

In case the motor is out ..you may consider if it will worth the repair...unless it has a sentimental vale for you ..and in this case you have to contact the manufacturer for a replacement or ..if they do not make this kind anymore..you may consider buy a second hand one for parts ..

I don't know the AT PL50 but I had a similar problem with another make of turntable.
The problem was caused by the rear end of the pick-up arm hitting the side of the perspex cover. The solution was a simple one - leave the lid in the raised position or lift the cover right off when playing records.

there are not much electronic circuit for controlling the mechanism. all mecanical movements. there are only switches to sense staring and ending. remove the power and do the following

while holding the tone arm in its rest position, slowly turn the platter by hand clock wise at least 10 rotation to clear the machanism's automatic cycle.

the connect the power and press start.

it sounds like your cartridge is shot and damaged.
this turntable has fixed cartridge and only the stylus can be changed.

Not by design.

Tracking Force and anti-skate are preset and unfortunately not adjustable in many modern turntables . You want to be cautious with modifying it if only a couple of your records skip.

If you DO decide to try modifying it consder that the tracking force is in the probable range of 2-4 grams. In the old prehistoric days before T'Ts had adustable tracking and antiskate we would place a dime or penny on top of the cartridge shell to assert the stylus into the groove. THAT is a bad idea unless excessive record and stylus wear is unimportant to you.

Is there anything that might contribute to skipping (not level, scratches, warps, environmental vibrations, loud speakers nearby)?

Lift off rubber table mat..then lift off turn table..belt will then be visable..Advise: belt may not need replacing.. check that it has`nt just come off the drive motor..!

I prefair to use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab to convert records to MP3, It's really good at getting rid of noise and crackles.

Well, there isn't much on this unit that controls the speed. It's either your belt or your motor that's gone or going bad. Try replacing the belt first. If you still have the same issue, you might need to have a tech look at it. The 33/45 switches might have also gone out, but it doesn't like this is the issue.

believe it or not not it probably doesn`t even play your lp`s at the right speed? Its probably because your drive belt has actually stretched? rubber belts do wear and maybe seek out a replacement drive belt?

See what kind of arm position sensing elements are used in your turntable (micro switches, optics or possibly other) and check if they work correctly - sometimes a microswitch can be damaged or have oxydized internal contacts or a badly soldered / broken wire and it will not function properly, causing the unit to stop automatically, the same might happen if the sensor is of optical type and there is some dust or broken wires or if the emmiter or sensor is damaged. Also, it could be a problem with the part that activates the switch / optics, it might be displaced or damaged.

If all sensors / switches seem to work well, then check the section which has wires going to those sensors / switches, it's the next probable location of the fault (it might be an electronic controller so there could be damage to some components, broken wires, dirty connectors or bad solder contacts).

It could as well be something else in the mechanisms, wiring or electronics, i just suggested a few things that might cause the malfunction you described.

take the turntable arm by your hand and place it above the record,then use the up and down lever to lower arm on record!!
